Any reviews on diving on Isla Mujeres??

We're headed to Isla Mujeres next week--it will not disappoint you. I was certified there (at Coral Scuba), and have a real soft spot for the place. Cozumel has better diving, sure, but Isla Mujeres has fine, easy dives, and the island itself can't be beat. (One point of clarification--Cozumel...

    Pinnacle Evo 2 Question

What can I say? If you go to the description of the Evo 2 and look at the available sizes you'll see that they don't list any talls. I would love to have one--the XL is a little baggier on me than it needs to be. Great suit, though. I'll wear it forever.

    Pinnacle Evo 2 Question

Are you certain that the suit you tried on was actually a large tall? I ask because I don't believe the EVO 2 is available in a large tall. If it was, I think they would have given me one. I got an XL, which is fine for my 6' 2" height, but as I'm skinny a large tall would have given me a...

    Isla Mujeres? Has anyone been?

Isla Mujeres shares water and dive sites with Cancun, with easy, fairly shallow, and very pretty dives with a surprising amount of marine life (I was certified there, and am returning in February). I wouldn't go there for a dedicated dive trip, but will always do a few days' worth of diving...

    Bermuda..Where to Stay and Dive?

We stayed at The Reefs a couple of months ago--excellent place and I recommend it highly. The closest dive shop is the Dive Bermuda shop, located as noted at the Fairmont Southhampton. It is a very short cab or bus ride away from The Reefs--and it is only a 15 or 20 minute walk, if you're not...

    Visiting La Jolla

I'll be briefly in La Jolla for work this fall and would love to set a day aside for diving. Probably a weekday. I'll be alone, and not carrying gear with me. Can anyone suggest a shop/operator I might be able to work with?

    Drying attached drysuit boots

I was out for the first time in my Pinnacle Evo II—my first ever drysuit. I had a bit of a leak (dumb—don’t ask how) and so the suit and boots ended up wet on the inside. The attached neoprene boots are taking forever to dry—I turned the suit inside out as far as I could with the clunky attached...

wet suit for northeast diving (for a skinny body, normal height)

We're in the same boat--I'm taller, but narrow. Wetsuits are usually either too short for me or bag under my arms and bottom. You should be thinking 7mm, though. I don't think 5mm is enough insulation for New England, especially if you've been feeling cold with a farmer john. And with hooded...

    Puerto Morelos May 2-6

I did 7 dives with Wet Set about a month ago and recommend them highly. Paul Hensley runs a very solid operation, and seems to have a large and devoted following. They are located at the Hotel Ojo de Agua--Paul arranged a good lodging package there for my buddy and me. Puerto Morelos is a...

You have GOT TO BE KIDDING!- New Aqualung BC

In the photo this BC appears to retain the velcro-ed flap on the left shoulder that one normally uses to secure the inflator hose. Is that so when you give up on this stupid and dangerous idea you can go back to a normal inflator? I also noted this line in the product description: "should...

gloucester times article and public hearing

Can anyone who attended the hearing on Monday provide a report on its outcome? The Gloucester Daily Times hasn't printed a story since then that I could find.

Playa del Carmen, here I come!

I second the recommendation of Abyss--small, personable, professonial. Even better, they now own a small hotel, the Hotel Casablanca on 1st Ave right off the beach, and have relocated there. Have a look - www.abyssdiveshop.com. They're also Canadian, by the way.

Latest Oceanlog problem - Time Out

Good idea, and one of the first things I tried, but no luck. The defective cable theory explanation seems likely.

Latest Oceanlog problem - Time Out

I finally got around to downloading my last several dives, but wasn't able to. I got as far as "Starting Handshake" but than after several seconds got "Time Out." I unplugged and replugged everything, made sure all the connections were clean, and even reinstalled the program. The Help section...

    Buying dry suits online

Is it a bad idea to buy a dry suit online? This question is coming from someone used to a 7mm wetsuit but getting tired of it. I haven't begun looking too carefully at my options yet, but I'm wondering how important it is to have someone there to trim the seals, etc. of the dry suit. I bought my...

    7mm wetsuit recommendations

Fit--you'll be diving in cold water and the suit needs to be snug. I'm tall and narrow and so have a problem with wet suit fit, but I found that Bare, which has a big range of sizes, was able to deliver. Also because it's a 7mm you should make sure that there is enough stretch in the material to...

    Riviera Maya in April

Where are you staying? The RM is a fairly big area. When we were in Playa del Carmen this past April I had several very good dives with www.abyssdiveshop.com. But by all means schedule a day diving at Cozumel and consider a Cenote dive, too. Abyss and all the other dive shops can do the Cenote...
