Note to self--change computer battery compartment o-ring more frequently than never..

If a dive computer floods in saltwater your best chance of saving the computer is to rinse the comparment in fresh water ASAP because the salt water a) conducts electricity much more efficiently and b) causes rust almost immediately so there's a far greater chance of shorting out and damaging...

Good chance you fried more than the old battery if the compartment flooded with salt water.

    Tank Setup

I carry a 19cf pony on the deeper dives and I mount it to my main tank exactly the same way. It's safe it's secure, it's behind me and not interfering with any of my gear. I don't even know it's there, unless of course I might need it, in which case the pony regulator is directly below my chin...

Advice to buy a diving computer for a beginner

1- Ignore divers who say don't get a computer, it's like saying don't drive a car that has a speedometer or gas gauge. Computers make diving easier, more convenient, more fun and are more accurate than what a diver can do with the old fashioned tables. 2- I use the older Oceanic line, primarily...

    Online dive log

*Subsurface mobile app has been updated in 12/2017 and I just tried it out and it now works fine to log and update the file stored on the cloud server. Too bad I can't edit my post above where I complained about the lack of functionality of the mobile app. Good job fixing the mobile app...

Dive OPs who enforce 24 hour cancelation policy but can cancel last minute??

It can also be code for something not working right on the airplane.

    Online dive log

I use Subsurface as well. It can be a bit buggy especially the mobile app which I find impossible to use to enter data but it's convenient to have it available on your phone in case you need to show it to an Op.

    Waning SCUBA Participation

I'd say that covers it. Given the expense and the time commitments to diving, and so many other vacation alternatives, a person really needs to experience that "wow" factor to keep coming back. Unless they've got the passion for diving that most posters on this board probably do, and enjoy...

Less dived sites in the Upper Keys?

Ok thanks for the comments. I like the snorkeling idea! Or we'll pay Sea Dwellers a visit for the night dive. The rest of the group outvoted me on the private diving idea which is now completely off the table but I'm bookmarking this thread for those off the beaten path dive sites for possible...

Dive OPs who enforce 24 hour cancelation policy but can cancel last minute??

Great post except for the part quoted above, I'm having trouble figuring out how a car dealer would be down a grand if he sold the car for a grand more than he paid for it but my math skills aren't up to par lately. The rest of it is spot on. It's all about running a business and good customer...

    Cozumel Trip Report

You think a dive shop that would put such a poor DM in the water cares about their reputation? They're low cost, probably run a 6 pack boat and barely speak English. There's plenty of fault on the Dive Operator but the diver who had this experience could have had a better time of it with better...

    Cozumel Trip Report

I've been on some poorly led dives, I've been on dives where other divers don't have a clue and where the DM is so far ahead and out of touch with what's happening that the dive is an impending disaster from the minute the group splashes. Here's what I do- if diving with a buddy, I'll stick...

Less dived sites in the Upper Keys?

Ok thanks for the very helpful feedback, we're considering our options. For what it's worth when I ran my private boat diving idea by my girlfriend she said I am out of my freaking mind (and she knows boats better than I do, she's owned some really big ones over the years with her exH)

Less dived sites in the Upper Keys?

Well, in all honesty, not really. 3 of us have or had boats at one time or another but we're certainly not familiar with the area and haven't done a lot of night boating. The boat is docked in Tavernier I thought it would be a quick easy run out to the reef. I figured we'd speak to the boat...

Less dived sites in the Upper Keys?

Hi fellow Florida Keys Divers! We're a group of 4 and we'll be staying and diving in the Tavernier area in 2 weeks. We booked a place for a couple of nights and have use of a boat, so even though we're diving with Conch Republic Divers during the day on Friday and Saturday we are thinking of...

SE Florida for timid beginner, early March

Only if she's timid. I was on a dive boat once that had no head, there were about 6 of us on the boat, none of us knew each other. This chick suddenly dropped the lower half of her wetsuit, sat on the edge of the boat and dropped a load in the water and politely asked for some toilet paper...
