Question about removing first stage underwater

I would be quite hesitant to pull off my 1st stage underwater, even in fresh water. There may not be any salt to mess it up but pond/lake muck will mess it up also.

    getting fills question

Pug, I haven't heard of partial pressure blending with 40% and air. The purpose of keeping the tank O2 clean is because most partial pressure blending is done with 100% and air. While I certainly agree that some methods will allow for an EANx fill with a tank that isn't O2 clean, you still...

    same deal

I'm glad it worked out OK. Now go get cert'd before you try a stunt like that again. :thumb:

    Learn here or learn there?

I had some friends who did their class and pool work in Colorado and then flew down to the Keys to do their confined water and open water check outs. It was a great solution for them and I would recommend it. With the universal referral programs that exist, you should have no problem finding...

any other agencies other than padi and naui?

I got my EANx cert from SSI and was very happy with both the format and content of the training. SSI combines videos, book and lecture sessions to give a well rounded training experience. :thumb:

    getting fills question

Would you mind explaining how you can put non-O2 compatible air into an O2 cleaned tank and then later get an EANx fill without re-cleaning the tank?

What is Advanced Open Water Diver???

Note: This post is in no way intended to dog on PADI nor to imply that NAUI is better. When I took my NAUI AOW course, the book we used was the old NAUI Master Diver book. There isn't much about recreational diving it doesn't cover, from how various types of regs work (1st and 2nd stage) to...

    getting fills question

I agree. If they don't have an O2 clean air whip, then they have to remove the EANx sticker because at that point, the tank is not O2 clean anymore and can't carry EANx untill it is recleaned.

    scubapro equipment

I use a ScubaPro Classic BCD and really like it. However, it has an SP AirII in it that I hate and will probably replace. (Anyone wanna buy it? ;)) Bottom line, you gotta try some stuff and decide what you like and then go with that. The most important thing is feeling comfortable in the...

What is Advanced Open Water Diver???

and felt it was a really good class. I think what made it great was the instructor. We talked about diving in lots of different environments and then got to try 4 or 5 of them (8 dives, as I recall). :thumb:

I hadn't seen that before. Thanks, O-ring. :thumb:

    Buddy Diving Question

I have had inattentive buddies who left me hanging but I don't think I'd ever want to sue them or make it easier for them to be sued. It seems to me that we should be able to take being a dive buddy serious while, at the same time, making our own safety a priority. Most of the time, it seems, it...

    First Reg purchase

Find out what you need and buy the best one you can afford. Of course, the trick is figuring out what kind of diving you'll be doing. :)

    What regs do you dive?

An old 12 and a 14. They have been very reliable, although a bit wet breathing at times. I keep thinking about getting something new but haven't yet. :thumb:

    Night snorkeling

You might try the IK Mini-Q40. It's a 6-volt light that puts out pretty good lumination. For shallow snorkeling, it might be all you need. You can also attach it to your mask strap for hands-free use. It would also be great to use as a "nook and cranny" light on day dives. :thumb:

What does RMV stand for? I've never heard/seen that abbreviation.

Mistakes you have made rushing into the water

I once was in a hurry and didn't properly check out my rental tanks. My first tank had a little over 2000 PSI when I hit the water. That made for a short first dive. My buddy was pissed because he only dives one weekend a year (weanie, warm water resort diver) and I was messing up his trip...

    Great White?!!??

I would have to guess that a shark of that size in the Keys would be a bull shark. Certainly not a great white as they are cold water sharks. I have indeed heard of large bulls off the coast of Florida. :sharks:

    Some questions about classifications...

What makes you think that it needs to be done again? This isn't a flame or anything, just a question. What I mean is that every living critter has already been classified from kingdom down. If anything, the best thing would be to just compile stuff into affordable reference books. As a...
