In my ever so humble opinion, this new thing of companies producing "EANx compatable" regs is just an attempt at slick marketing. Unless you are using high ppO2's, such as in a stage bottle or something, then you don't need to worry about it.
is to try the various elements, in various combinations, in a pool and see what feels most comfortable to you. After you narrow that down to a couple of choices, try each one in a real diving situation and see what's best for you.
The most important thing is feeling comfortable and confident...
it might be easier to just get yourself a single tank and then set yourself up some doubles and use them as needed or use the doubles even if you don't need to. I have a buddy who keeps a set of Al 72's set up all the time but also has 2 or 3 single Al 80's that he dives with most of the time...
I have a couple of them. They were used in conjunction to the old "horse collar" bouyancy compesation devices (BCD's), back before we had BCD's with integrated back-packs to hold the tank.
It's kinda funny and cool to hear someone posting about dropping 150 quid at a dive shop. It brings home how international this board is.
COOL!

no reason why not. I recently had a "shortie-80" given to me. The guy was gonna toss it for scrap. It was out of hydro so I declined the $20 he had asked for it and he just up and gave it to me. It passed hydro just fine and I can't wait to try it out.

I have used a couple of purge masks that I liked but for the most part, I tend to think of them as just a mask "with a hole in it" and use a regular mask.
;)
It sounds like your mask is too low volume and there simply isn't enough space between your mask and face? Maybe the skirt has been "squished" or something.
 Interesting problem...
Unless you're in an overhead environment, the WB should not be under anything as it will get snagged, esp if you're using bricks on a web and not shot-bags or lose shot in pouches. Mr. Murphy is an avid diver and shows up regularly to intense situations. Don't give him anything to work with. ;)...
what if the type of diving you are doing doesn't call for EANx and/or you just don't want to spend the money on an the fill? So long as the air is O2 comp, what's the big deal?
JMHO
The local shops here in OK spend toooooo much time trying to set up trips to Coz and such. They would do themselves and the diving community a favor by working harder at promoting local diving (or even short, weekend trips to TX, MO or NM) as it would keep us in the water more and provide them...
