I'm personally not a fan of suunto computers, BUT they are very popular and are quite cheap if you shop around. That could be very good for you.

I have lots of regs.
Two apeks DS4 with Poseidon cyklon second stage
Twelve apeks DS4s with apeks XTX50 second stages
9 apeks DS4s for rebreathers
Two apeks DS4s for suit inflation
It's got 4 LP ports, 1 HP port.
I've used them back mounted singles and doubles in the UK. Sidemount cave...
Pastoblend is free and does anything you could ever want a blending app to do
Pastodeco is the same for deco calcs but costs some money, not much

Apeks DS4 and XTX50
I used it on open water, it started cave diving with me, I use them on bailout, deco cylinders and my rebreather. Fail safe reg and cheap

I hope you've bought an Apeks DS4 with an XTX50.
I can only think of one scenario where those regs don't work, and some people use them there!
They're cheaper than most regs too...go on...have a look.

I agree with you on the comparative lack of customisation, can't say I find the dive uploads flakey on the petrel 2?

Scubadada....I presume your second paragraph was aimed towards myself.
I don't always dive 30/70. Sometimes I dive 20/60, sometimes 35/85, sometimes 60/90. Depends what I'm doing, and more specifically, where!
For shorter dives, such as your own, a higher GF may be useful (to be honest...
Reading the manual is NOT a lesson in decompression theory.

And no worries, as a result of it:
Say I need 6L of deco gas, I used to take 9L (so 10L) bottle.
Now I take two 7Ls for...
So you set to GF35/70, like a normal.
Then you go on a deep sidemount cave dive where nobody has been in 30 years. The line breaks, on return you get tangled badly at depth, then have to search for the other end of the line, you eat into your reserve. You get back to your deco bottle and it's...
You can set to 100/100.

Or at least, you can dive it 100/100

I concede in your convoluted scenario that arm mounting would not work, though suspect that you could still get the knife out with a bit of fiddling and ingenuity, I'll have to have a play.
But your second point, about convention, nothing about convention dictates that it's right or best...
I don't know about you, but I can reach my right arm with my left.

On top of this. Arms are not likely to get tangled as you can see and control them easily.

Trilobites also fit nicely on bungee computer straps and are possibly the most amazing cutting tool I've ever seen.
They'll cut 2inch webbing you know? Try it.
