There's a gent near me who's getting into cave diving (things work a little differently over here to the US) so we've sent him on his PADI OW course.
He's a skinny chap, about 6 feet tall. I'm a skinny chap, about 6 feet tall. In a drysuit they've got him using 20kg (about 40lb) he reported to...
Lots of people on this thread saying "oh, well why don't they sell a basic model and allow you to buy expansions to do the diving you want with it"
Because if they did their core consumer base would walk away. I'd suggest the majority of shearwaters divers DO use all the features available on...
Couldn't agree with DevonDiver more!
As for junk added to computers, AI, HR monitors, air time remaining, audible alarms, lock outs and ridiculous algorithms.
Correct, I had about 400 cave dives when I joined the forum. Now precisely 970.
Circa 3000 dives all in now including open water. But who counts those?
Crap. Absolute crap.
I dive in caves. I dig open underwater caves. This may involve setting underwater charges, setting up scaffolding, moving boulders, drilling, hammer and chiselling, you name it, we do it.
We don't need AI.
As for your "heavy camera rig". Jill Heinarth doesn't use AI...
If they do safety stop for NDL dives, they're conservative.

Most boats (at least 10+ years ago) expected a safety stop from you anyway.

You like how they simplified the tech world?
Let's simplify the Rec world.
Before you dive you chose nitrox or air.
Big screen:
During the dive it displays KEEP DIVING if you're in NDL and above MOD for nitrox.
GO UP if you go below MOD for nitrox.
SURFACE: If you have less than 5...
Well you want the lay out, the instructions, design...
A petrel tells you when your NDL is and will bring you home from short deco.
Your point about being too tech may be a fair one though. And I don't mean that in a grandstanding way. Just I genuinely only really dive in caves. Contemplating...
They're moving.
Anyone can be flat whilst swimming. Specially in a wetsuit.
Get yourself a drysuit and spend some time modelling for a photographer...
Though I agree with the general consensus of the thread, you can dive any old thing with a bit of practice. I dive with an organisation...
You can have it cheap, fast or good. Pick two.
That's a common, and true, phrase.
You can have it cheap or good is probably more accurate when describing a product.

I dive exclusively in caves nowadays. Always solo.
I wear a helmet. Can only lose the mask if the strap breaks.
I use a fabric strap
