    When did you lose track?

Blank notebook for me. I keep track of dive number, date, site, exposure protection, weight, water temp and gas mixture. Then some notes. Blank book allows me to embellish (with photos or drawings) or not, in the event that I'm just taking info from my computer and have no notes to make.

SSI Letter of Referral Accepted by PADI for OW Course?

Interesting approach; one you don't see that often on scubaboard. :-)

SSI Letter of Referral Accepted by PADI for OW Course?

Which is what the poster in that case received, from that PADI instructor: A PADI certification. He was not talking about a Universal Referral (nor was I).

SSI Letter of Referral Accepted by PADI for OW Course?

It's not a matter of being "more conservative" - it's simply a matter of following standards. PADI has standards for an instructor to follow when receiving a referral from another agency, and those standards require that the student complete the skills assessment and OW final exam before moving...

    When did you lose track?

To me, this is logging. :-)

    When did you lose track?

Ditto this. "Dive was uneventful." appears a lot in my book, or if there ARE any issues, I capture those too, so I (hopefully) have enough info to recall a particular situation.

SSI Letter of Referral Accepted by PADI for OW Course?

To elaborate a bit - John, your comments refer to a situation where this would be completed AS a Universal Referral. Correct? The OP seems to have encountered a shop that would prefer to complete this certification as a PADI certification (so NOT as a Universal Referral). In that case, they...

    When did you lose track?

I still log mine in a paper book, and for some reason, it seems important that I keep count. Just a couple of days ago I was packing up some things, and I came across a couple of the old books... got a coffee and sat down for a read. It's always interesting to me to reminisce through the logs...

How many have seen dolphins on their dive?

We saw orcas in Galapagos. The folks in the other panga saw one during their dive, take out a hammerhead. You do not want to mess with the apex predators!

Travel Route Suggestions-going from the US to Playa by Car

Mike, unless you were the one in the car, I'd say you're unqualified to judge the decisions made. Having made that drive, I've got to commend El Graduado on the ability to make ANY decision whilst his butt was clenched as tight as I'm sure it was. I know when we did it the first time, I was very...

    Recommended dive op in Cozumel

What kind of critters are you looking for? If you can be specific about what you're hoping to see, most DMs in Cozumel would likely be able to assist you. If you can't be specific, trying to narrow it down even a little will help. kari

How many have seen dolphins on their dive?

I've seen dolphins underwater three times in Cozumel. Once at Chunchakaab, once at Dalila, and most recently at Maracaibo. Here's a little video if you like. :-) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5-VHchdAZ04

Puzzled over NAUI certification "name changes"

Ha. Welcome to Scubaboard. :-) There is a lot of good information here, but there's a lot of chaff in with the wheat.

    Bangka/Lembeh solo in December/Jan?

Aircon in the cottages when power was available, which was from about 5 p.m. to 8 a.m. Which, with a three dive per day schedule, really just meant "when you're out diving, the A/C is off in your room." We loved it there.

    Bangka/Lembeh solo in December/Jan?

We just got back from Murex Bangka. Not camping. It's cottage style accommodations, clean, nice porches on every cabin, great views, and yes, mosquito nets around the beds if you need them. And plenty of food, dinner or otherwise. We were recommended to bring a bottle of liquor if we wanted...

    Chamber/Ambulance Controversy

In the original conversation on FB, the person who was "acting like a doctor" responded. And he is a doctor. Which likely explains why he was acting like one. There don't seem to be reports of people being taken to non-medical personnel or facilities, just not always the particular person or...
