    O2 + CO analyzer choices.

    @DiveNav: Just got the tracking number, and it looks like mine will arrive about a week before my upcoming trip. You all are awesome! (-;

    Preparedness for dive computer failures

    I should have added that I don't currently dive with a depth gauge and timer, although I wouldn't necessarily rule them out going forward. The likelihood of 2 computers failing simultaneously is quite remote, however, so I don't currently view them as critical additions to my dive kit.

    Preparedness for dive computer failures

    I've currently got 2 computers... an Oceanic VT 4.1 (hoseless AI) in a wrist mount, and an Oceanic Veo 2.0 (my original dive computer) in a console mount with analog pressure gauge. The former is newly acquired (so I haven't used it yet), but the intent is to always dive with both... if one...

    Are dive computers making bad divers?

    This seems like something which could just as easily occur with a depth gauge, however.

    O2 + CO analyzer choices.

    @divenav: What sort of shipping times do you anticipate (I'm in the Kansas City area, if that makes a difference)? I'll be leaving for a dive trip on the 21st, and it would be awesome if the beastie arrives in time to join me. :) Thanx!

    Importing Oceanlog into Subsurface

    Have you considered using divelogs.de as an intermediate step? It can apparently import OceanLog files, although the described process is a bit weird... supposedly OceanLog 2.2.8+ actively tries to lock down access to the file. Once completed, Subsurface will happily export your data from the site.

    POLL: What was your first dive computer and would you buy it again?

    Oceanic Veo 2.0, in a console mount (purchased as part of a package). While I'll probably upgrade to an AI configuration at some point (hose or wrist mount as-yet undecided), it's served me quite well so far and is pretty easy to use. I like it well enough that I've just ordered another (in...

    O2 + CO analyzer choices.

    @DiveNav: On a related note, how long / how many calibrations would you expect for such a bottle to last? And how frequently do you anticipate the cootwo requiring calibration? Thanx!

    Are dive computers making bad divers?

    One thing I'd add for new divers planning to dive via computer, is that there's a lot of value in "biting the bullet" and acquiring your own unit relatively early. It's helpful to have one you can become very familiar with up front, rather than having to learn the local shop's computer du jour...

    PADI cert

    It took me about 2 weeks to receive the permanent card from PADI (my LDS does everything by mail, unfortunately). About 4-5 days after the paperwork was sent, however, I received an email confirmation that it was being processed and a URL to activate free 30-day ecard (smartphone required). As...

    O2 + CO analyzer choices.

    Just a bit over one day remaining, and the project is currently sitting at $47,949. At this point it wouldn't surprise me at all for it to reach the $50,000 stretch goal... the $80,000 secondary stretch, not so much. That's pretty respectable for a project with an initial goal of just $25,000. (-;

    O2 + CO analyzer choices.

    From some other threads, I've gotten the impression that sufficiently accurate CO sensors have been pretty expensive in the past. Most seemed to require frequent calibration as well, which was apparently somewhat awkward. My guess is that the necessary components have finally dropped to an...

    Certification and snorkels...

    It was definitely still required during my OW certification last year.

    O2 + CO analyzer choices.

    Interestingly, I was speaking with a colleague just the other day about wanting a combined CO/O2 sensor, and our mutual inability to find such a beastie. What the heck, I'm in! :)

    Subsurface / libdivecomputer performance with Veo 2.0

    I made several attempts last night and today, and to my great surprise wasn't able to reproduce the issue. I've been downloading the day after completing a dive, so at this point I think your suspicion of wet contacts is most likely correct. I'll let you know if it turns up again (without that...

    Subsurface / libdivecomputer performance with Veo 2.0

    OK, I'll try to force a re-download (since there are no new dives stored) with logging enabled after work tomorrow. Thanx!

    Subsurface / libdivecomputer performance with Veo 2.0

    The last time I used it was for my checkout dives, so 4 dives total (each in the 20-30 minute range) which occurred over the course of 2 days. It took well over 10 minutes to complete the download.

    Subsurface / libdivecomputer performance with Veo 2.0

    I'm a relatively new diver, using subsurface 4.2 on Ubuntu Linux 14.10. One thing I've noticed is that the process of downloading data from my Oceanic Veo 2.0 dive computer is extremely slow. It looks like the cable is just a USB serial converter, so this might be normal, but I'm hoping there...

    dive operators in the Melbourne area?

    Will do. Thanx! ---------- Post added December 1st, 2014 at 10:47 PM ---------- After a bit of discussion with Capt SL8R this evening, I went ahead and booked a trip with them. Judging from afar, it certainly appears to be a well run operation... I'm really looking forward to it! My thanx...

    dive operators in the Melbourne area?

    Several folks on Reddit have echoed your sentiment, and suggested driving to Jupiter (which looks like it's around 10 miles from West Palm Beach). So far I have recommendations for Capt SL8R Charters and Jupiter Dive Center, the former of which looks rather interesting... will most likely give...
