    Trunkfishes are in the same family as cowfishes (Ostraciidae). Both have a bony, triangular "armor". Check out this book for reference: Reef Fish Identification 4th Edition Page 456-457 you will see them both. I will have an ebook coming out later this year on "Fish in a box".

    Thank you scubadada. Yes, Spotted trunkfish is something I try to shoot every time I see one. Usually fairly shy, as well.

    Thank you sportxlh. Yes, it has been bumpy for a while here. Eel was a lot of fun - moving pretty fast from one section of the reef across a sand patch to another patch.

    Thank you scubadada. Correct on the shadowing - don't see that stationary - usually on the move together, they were under a ledge just sitting there. Yes marbled grouper, there are at least 2 that we see fairly often now. This photo is the larger one.
