    Ignorant DIR Question

At the risk of turning the discussion into even more of a religious war than it already is, I'm going to propose an analogy. First my usual disclaimer: I'm a novice diver and an eager inquirer into the ways of DIR. I'll admit to knowing very little about diving, even less about DIR, enough to...

    Wetsuit help

Go here: http://aquaflite.com I faxed them measurements and a Visa card number on Wednesday of last week; wetsuit arrives by UPS today while I'm talking with Ed on the phone. Now I know how a wetsuit is supposed to fit. Great product, very reasonable prices.

    New to these boards!

Welcome, Kiet! Newly certified myself and having a blast. Shaw's Cove in Laguna is really nice, especially if you can get out on a weekday. Weekends can become tedious with regard to parking. Don't forget Casino Pt on Catalina. A little something for everyone there. Here's a good guide...

Cycling is Dangerous, Not Diving, I have Concluded

Veteran cyclist; newbie diver. Diving is definitely safer than cycling on a road. The risks are much more manageable underwater. Watch out for the drunk boaters, though. I think I'd rather swim with sharks than share a road with drunks. Sharks are much more predictable.

    Who's your Favorite BP/W Manufacturer

I'm about to purchase my first bp/w, actually my first set of gear. Here's why I put my vote in for DSS and why I'm going to buy from them: 1. Great products 2. Great prices 3. American made 4. Local, owner-operated company 5. By divers, for divers 6. Customer service far above...

    Busted Diving

Surfers use the term "Board Meeting," eg - "I'm going to a 'board meeting' tomorrow and won't be in the office until later." Divers need a similar vocabulary. We could say we're going to do some "in-depth research" or some "field work." We could call our dive buddies "clients" and say...

    what do your partners think?

Preeeeeecisely! I couldn't agree more. A demanding, insecure fiance ain't a keeper. Toss her back. On the other hand, someone who refuses to give up something (diving with women) for the sake of their soon to be wife when there is a viable alternative (diving with men), ain't much of a...

    Christmas

Couldn't agree more. Here's my contribution: GOD REST YE MERRY DIVE SHOPS God rest ye merry dive shops dear Let none of you have fear Remember profits aren’t fixed Until the end of year With six more shopping weeks to go You needn’t shed a tear Oh tidings of profits and joy...

    what do your partners think?

Do not stay with irrational people. It leads to irrational relationships and high maintainance marriages. To quote the daughter of a friend of mine: "Dating is more or less a catch and release program." Emotionally irrational types aren't keepers. Toss 'em back. Therapy's expensive...

Something mighty fishy about that OP. :eyebrow:

    what do your partners think?

I'm a newbie to diving but not to marriage counseling. Here's my 2¢ for free: Maeistero - dive with men, dude! :no Your fiance is not a diver and doesn't share that social interest with you so she can't come along and be a part. Strike one. She's concerned about your female dive...

I Spent too much time reading SB and ...

Been there, done that. Doing it right now, as a matter of fact. Nice job on the lyrics! Now I have Janis Joplin in my head.

    I love new divers

As a bona fide "newbie" no matter how you define the term (16 dives since August OW cert), I greatly appreciated the sentiment of the original post. Having come into scuba somewhat "later" in life at the age of 49, I'm very aware of my lack of skills and experience in view of experienced...

Where do you store your tank?

The temperature is not enough to make a difference. Pressure will vary proportionately with temperature. If your tank was filled to 3000 psi @ 70 degrees, it should be 3173 psi @ 100 degrees and 2604 psi @ 0 degrees F. It would have to get pretty darn hot to pop the cork on a full cylinder...

    Cutting up an Alu Backplate

I can't vouch for structural integrity; it depends where and what you cut, I suppose. And I know nothing at all about bp/w performance, Al or otherwise (but I'm learning!). I do know a thing or two about aluminum, having a couple of degrees in chemistry under my weight belt. The moment you...

SCUBA Political Ad (link to video)

That would be salacious though vacuous. Same net result, minus the sharks, which were very cool.:14:

SCUBA Political Ad (link to video)

Clever but vacuous. I wonder how much it cost to stick him in the tank. I'll bet it wasn't cheap. Bill51 - Love the Franklin quote, btw!

    Sea Hunt

Loved that show. Though I was just a little kid, I think it imprinted scuba in me at an early and impressionable age. I remember playing Mike Nelson in the bathtub and the backyard pool with a snorkel. Learned mouth breathing at an early age as a result. The show has recently come out on DVD.
