I think like anything the shop has the choice to do what it wishes. With the popularity of Scuba these days and the popularity of Trimix and CCR. shops are crazy to piss off the already small community of diving like this. Instead of bitching whining they should consider getting better...
Its clearly all comes down to how its used.
1) Are you using nitrox for the extended ranges, meaning you are still diving to with in the NDL of the mix then sure you may not feel better your still loaded with nitrogen coming out of the water.
2) Are you like me and will dive a mix but...
I understand that, This thread was a split from another and i was stating that comment due to the other thread where people where talking about divers diving nitrox with no certification or training.
I have not logged a dive in a couple years, since my AOW class.
I do however print off the hard copies of my dive profiles from my Vytec or Vyper when i dive using their Dive manager 3 software. It pretty much has all i would ever need minus the signature.
Honestly the funniest thing i have see so far, was 2 years ago a diver had a huge knife and sheath strapped to his tank... Which of course was strapped to his back! . When i asked why, he said it was soo his buddy could get to it fast and save his ass... I asked him what happens when his buddy...
When you buy the tank you need or want, just make sure you buy it with a 200 BAR DIN valve.. it would come with the screw in adapter. At least all mine have :D
Right,
But in this case, When i do the same dive 100 times in my doubles and stages on air and then fall asleep in my soup during our after dive debriefing... but then up my mix due to my unlimited supply of nitrox now :D and do the same dive over and over again now watching my team fall...
Just because something has not been "Proven" does not mean it does not work.
I can tell you personally i know for a fact, and we are not talking a Pacebo effect.. that i have done dives i have done many times over and when do the same dives on a higher 02 mix i clearly feel better.
I mean if...
Maybe not using 1 mix as your only gas. But i know i can do the same hour long dive 100 times and then do it on a 32% and then jump to a 50% on the way back and i come out of the water feeling 10 years yonger than if i had done it all on 21%.
I guess the point is Nitrox is considered anything 22% to 99% ( some will say any thing from 1% - 99% ) much of that range if dove with even with in recreational level training could cause serious issues.
Who are the uneducated masses... Simply the ones who are not trained on NITROX...
I think this is bad advice.
Nitrox or not, You need to carry the gas that is required for your dive. Using a pony as an emergency air source would mean you want to have a mix in it that will match your bottom mix.
Having a 40% mix in your emergency gas supply and diving to 130 feet might...
But where does it stop?
Great the divers where using Nitrox, But what percentage?? 22% to 99% Give a diver doing a open water course a 32% mix sure they will come out of the water feeling better than 21%... however give them a 70% mix and they come out with a rocket under their ass and i...
