PADI's fee to dive centers to issue specialty certs such as Deep Diver

Here is an example of a dive op listing the required cert for each wreck. And for s good number of them, it’s DEEP. Scuba Dive Charters – Four Fathoms Diving – Port Sanilac, MI

PADI's fee to dive centers to issue specialty certs such as Deep Diver

That’s when I decided not to bother with deep, and do AN/DP instead.

    Is this nitrogen narcosis?

I’d do the writing for a nice tropical dive vacation. Now we just need an agency that is sure to fund this...

    My Wifes IPE in Cozumel

Thank you for sharing, and im glad your wife is on the mend. And it seems like the emergency response was just about as good as it can be expected. Before it happened, a case can be made that the DM should have stayed closer to assist when trouble struck, of course. And yes the recall signal...

Two German divers drown at Gran Cenote Kalimba at Tulum

There are two types of cavern courses. One is taught in single-tank backmount, and it gives you that additional safety cushion so if your DM goes poof on you while on a cenote tour you will know what to do, am driving what not to do. Then there are cavern courses that are the first step to cave...

Two German divers drown at Gran Cenote Kalimba at Tulum

I appreciate all you did on this matter, and the outstanding reporting early on. Now that you have all the data, may I still hope for a final report to bring some closure to this? I understand how other more pressing things pop up, but I hope you can still find the time to get the final report...

    Altitude after diving in Hawaii

I’m not sure I would prefer hiking over driving from a decompression perspective. Physical exertion matter, too. So driving up to altitude might be better than hiking. In any case, the manta dives are quite shallow, maybe 30 ft. or so. And if you can do that on nitrox, you may be hardly load up...

(NEW) Should I take the PADI class in foreign country? How does it work?

Yes, you have to be careful with driving or hiking at altitude after diving. Two dives to less than 60 ft. aren’t a whole lot of nitrogen loading, but you still want to be on the safe side. Also, you may want to ask if you can combine a nitrox certification with your course. It’s a good one to...

Reading recommendations for someone prior to discover dive?

Isn't that a little over the top to recommend GUE-quality buoyancy work to a DSD diver? When I did my DSD dive on Hawaii years ago, I knew nothing about diving whatsoever. It was just a fun thing to do in the water. And once I got my bearings a little, I enjoyed it so much that I was doing...

    Maya Riviera cenote database

LOL - no such thing exists, and it would be very hard to create and maintain one. There are over a thousand known cenotes in that area, and their openness varies widely and changes frequently. Even for the most public ones where you can just come, pay, and enjoy the water, the rules like whether...

Planning a cave training trip to Mexico...need some advice.

Under the Jungle (Natalie Gibb et al.) is probably the top shop for Razor cave diving instruction in the area. They should be able to set you up with pretty much everything you need. As to a place to stay, Xoc-Ha is a place run by cave divers for cave divers nearby.

I'm a rec instructor. I want to be a tec instructor. No tec experience. I'm gonna need your help.

I would give the OP the benefit of the doubt. When I took my cavern course in MX from a respected cave instructor, I didn't know what I was in for. I expected something just a little more involved than another PADI specialty. And I got a big surprise - and ended up loving it. So if someone has...

Sandra Stewart sues a whole lot more folks

Without going into the particulars, what stands out about this accident is how easy it could have been avoided if any of the major players (Sotis, Horizon, the deceased) had at any time spoken up and just said "This is crazy - I'm not going along with this". Be it the overall dive plan, or the...

Freediver dies providing safety - Blue Hole Arch, Egypt

Deco wouldn't be a problem on such a bounce dive, but arterial gas embolism would be at such a rapid ascent on scuba from that depth.

Trip Report We did our first cenote dives and we're HOOKED

Welcome to the dark side - we have cookies! The cavern tours is like getting into drugs: thee first hit is free! In this case, you can do it with your OW cert and gear for the price of a boat dive. And then you're hooked and come back for more. You'll spend a lot of money on cave training and...

Why a mask with black skirt

I have done over 200 cave dives with a clear skirt. Works for me. I actually like having the additional peripheral light (not really vision, but still something) at the edge. So I think this, like so many things in diving, come down to personal preference, and not much else.

So I am not the only person roasting this moron....

Yes, all I got from it was that he is a ****** diver... (fecal reference to his diving skills auto-bleeped).

    "Uncharted" Diving?

I would also talk to the "Lake Cops". Makes sure that they know what a flag/float is, and that they can make boaters aware. It seems like the traffic is a small number of regulars, so education might actually work.

Accidents. Resuscitation. AED. Should AED be mandatory on diving boats?

There is a standard in the regulatory world for this. They extrapolate the premium that jobs with higher risks command to 100% chance of death. The number is something like 13million, if I remember correctly. And when new regulations are made, let's say, for stricter emission standards, that...

Is nitrox worth it for deeper rec dives?

In the tradeoff between a risk of OxTox vs. DCS, I would generally choose DCS. OxTox at depth means a seizure and very likely drowning. End of game. A minor DCS hit on the other hand is very survivable and often curable.
