I can get WELL into required deco on an AL80 Mike, particularly if I have AIR in that tank instead of Nitrox. I do agree that doing deco diving on a single tank without redundancy is not particularly smart, in that a single failure can easily "hose" you.

The problem is that a firm's PAST reputation can be rapidly overturned by their present actions. This was a pretty egregious act of slime, IMHO. If its my camera that doesn't get paid for I'd be upset. If its my $20,000 worth of chamber treatments, I'd be quite a bit more than just "upset."

I have changed to split washers, but not because of a tank getting seriously loose. It only has to be a bit loose to start shifting around, and I find that disconcerting - the split washers stop that. They're a whole few cents each at West Marine (make sure you get the Stainless Steel ones!)

Nothing wrong with marking it at whatever price they want, but that doesn't mean they aren't price-controlled. Most manufacturers give the retailer 10% or so "slop".... the true test is whether such a policy is there or not....
