Whats the perfect drysuit, without drying out my wallet

If you don't want a shell suit, then the NexGen isn't for you. But neither are a lot of others. I personally prefer a shell suit. If I want buoyancy changes with depth, I'll dive wet. I've got a TLS350 now, and got a nice price on it - but I fit a stock size. They're DEFINITELY not...

LP Warranty on AquaLung, SP, Apex etc.

The problem with SP, Larry, is the price-and-supply controls. If SP would drop those, all these problems would go away - and so would the divers feeling like they have their 'nads in a vise. BTW, Helen and family are trying to take Johnson Outdoors private. And, by the way, they've said...

Whats the perfect drysuit, without drying out my wallet

You guys talking about $1500 suits for a guy who wants something reasonable are scary! Look into the Bare NEX-Gen. You can find them around here in the States for $500 or so. Add to that a decent set of heavy Polypro underwear, and you're in business for water into the low to mid 60s. If...

LP Warranty on AquaLung, SP, Apex etc.

That also assumes the parts actually had to be changed! Most of the time - they don't, other than the O-rings. Oh sure, eventually seats will all have to be changed, but not every year - not if you take good care of your gear, anyway. There are about $0.50 (yes, that's right - fifty...

    Oriskany ("O" Boat) update

Politics..... it wouldn't surprise me if the folks over there gerrymandered the thing. Nothing surprises me in this arena, to be honest. Of course it wasn't so bad to tow her over to Corpus to clean her, right? Yep....

LP Warranty on AquaLung, SP, Apex etc.

Sre they do. At least for the seats. For the rest? Who cares who made the O-rings. I don't. Especially when I can buy them for 1/10th what SP wants. Wrong and illegal. The CPSC does not allow such games, and no manufacturer will attempt it. This has already been tested (e.g. with the...

    Airfare Deals/Tricks

You're planning on coming here at a great time. The weather isn't smoking hot any more and the water is still warm. Its one of my favorite times on the water around here..... you'll have fun. If you DO get down here, look me up. I'm always willing to blow some bubbles, and I go places...

Would you really know what was going on if your computer went into Deco...?

Now Pug, be honest here. You can't have "rotted" what you didn't have in the first place. I challenge you to find me an agency that actually teaches any part of decompression theory that has in any way any element of substance to any recreational diver. You can't - because such an...

    Took drysuit class. Have questions.

5lbs is huge. You're basically doubling the mass of the fins that most people are using, and more than doubling those with light, "flippy" fins. I suspect such a change will DEFINITELY show up in gas consumption, and further, is going to create some trim problems that are going to be hard to...

    Took drysuit class. Have questions.

That's true.... Spring straps though don't weigh much more than the rubber things. Now the heavy fins are indeed an issue - but the issue there is more one of a fin that doesn't flex too much and thus operate like a wet noodle under acceleration. I've yet to find ones that are both stiff...

    Oriskany ("O" Boat) update

Its about an hour and a half run for me in the big boat, and a bit over an hour in the little one, assuming reasonable sea state (if its not, I won't be going at all!) If/when it comes here, I will be out there the day it goes down, if the weather permits, and will be shooting video. It...

    Has diving changed your diet?

The benefit to mercury is that you no longer need a thermometer :D

    Took drysuit class. Have questions.

Spring straps have nothing to do with fads - they have everything to do with reducing entanglement and breakage risks. As for the heavy rubber fins, I have no problem with light, polymer-bladed fins - as soon as I can find some that actually kick reasonably well :D

    Took drysuit class. Have questions.

Ankle weights add mass to a part of your body that you intentionally move for propulsion. This translates into inertia, which you must overcome on each fin kick. They're a bad idea for that reason - they will significantly increase the work necessary to provide that propulsion, and thus...

    Has diving changed your diet?

I love sushi. Yellowfin tuna, just after it stops flapping around on the boat deck is absolutely delicious! :D Bugs, in season, are quite fair game. So are grouper and snapper, and a few others. I have no problem catching them with a hook and line, and I have no problem with shootnig them...

    Took drysuit class. Have questions.

I'm with Lubold on this one. And I don't believe in extra weight. I want to be able to hold a stop at 2' (in a freshwater pond - like a springhead!) with an EMPTY set of doubles (or darn close to it) and an empty wing. If I can, then my weighting is fine. Anything more just makes you less...

    Reverse Sinus Block - OWIE!!

That works for EARS. It does NOT work for sinuses. If you have problems on the way down, you can at least call the dive. The bad news is when all is ok on the way down, but it happens on the way UP. I've only had the problem once. I only want to have the problem once.....

Anyone ever built U/W Drop Cam for bad vis?

Any decent CCD camera should work. The only issues are going to be the cable and housing. Not particularly difficult to solve either problem, I suspect......

To tell or not to tell?

For this reason my waivers/disclosure forms with the ops will be clean. My physician, if I'm seeing one, will have my medical history and have cleared me for the diving I intend to do. Its NOYB, and that's the beginning and end of it, if I ever have a condition that requires that I take...

    LDS Scams

A big part of this is that the dive shops get folks to swallow, hook, line and sinker that its "cheaper, faster and better" for them not to. Certainly, for the diver who only blows bubbles a dozen times a year, there's no sense in owning his or her own compressor. Then again, its always...
