    Air Breaks and CNS

I'm not sure what would be a good method for observation-- a video monitor doesn't sound completely reliable, but having to do brain surgery on a population of rats to attach the electrodes sounds like a pretty high barrier to be able to run the experiment. Maybe external electrodes could...

    Air Breaks and CNS

I had an idea. It seems like just last week there was a post by a college student looking for a diving related experiment to run, and those type of posts come in every so often. It seems like it would be possible to get some idea of how air breaks influence this so-called clock with an...

    Air Breaks and CNS

Judging by accounts I've heard of CNS (not pulmonary) events, my impression is that we understand the stuff about as well as we understand the weather. We know some of the mechanisms at work, but there are too many significant variables involved for us to make a very reliable forecast without...

Accidental 100% O2 in non O2 clean regs - real risk?

http://www.eiga.org/fileadmin/docs_pubs/Info_15_08.pdf Ignition temperature drops with increasing O2 pressure, and the list of materials that will burn gets longer with increasing pressure as well. Oxygen safety is extremely dependent on pressure-- If he was diving at 100' with a high enough...

    Polyester webbing vs nylon webbing

Why would you say you're curious if you don't read answers in this thread that answer the question? Soft webbing=doesn't keep its shape=can't get into it. And that's webbing that's still the same weight belt-style webbing, just not stiff enough. Seat belt webbing is useless for this, but if...

Video of this year's trip to Florida.

Great video!! That is a cool "collage" thing you've done there, very nice!

    Polyester webbing vs nylon webbing

Yes-- the stiff stuff is best for harness webbing, it's easier to get into exactly as Lynne says. Softer material on the crotch strap makes for less wear and tear on your suit.

Where to buy steel grommets for a harness?

Another couple of tips I would suggest: Don't forget to use tube webbing sleeves over the harness webbing everywhere it passes through a slot in the plate. Use one long piece in the center for the top (where you're making your hole), and a short piece on each side at the bottom. The sleeves...

Question about AL 80's and temperature shifts ... condensation?

There's a good solid point in the message here.

    Nitrox BCD Question

I don't know much about the situation in Europe... just a vague recollection of a proposed law to require special Nitrox-only tanks outfitted with a valve that only matches dedicated "Nitrox" regulators. I thought that never passed into law. Am I reading your post correctly that this is the...

    Nitrox BCD Question

Sometimes it's hard to find any love :blinking: 40% or less won't cause any harm to any of your stuff, and there's no issue with using the same regulator for nitrox up to 40% sometimes and plain old air at other times. The only possible concern might be with a tank, in case you get it filled...

Not everyone thinks cave diving is the pinnacle of SCUBA!

I'm going to hold out until voices 5 & 6 chime in to make sure you have a real consensus.

Not everyone thinks cave diving is the pinnacle of SCUBA!

I wouldn't say that an untrained diver in a cave is quite so reckless as someone randomly shooting in a populated place. I think LowViz did pretty well at giving the distilled version. What's more in LowViz's version, is that the owner has very reluctantly agreed to allow some others to dive...

Not everyone thinks cave diving is the pinnacle of SCUBA!

For the record, I believe RandyTay's speaking metaphorically, comparing this attitude to Swampy's and others--

Not everyone thinks cave diving is the pinnacle of SCUBA!

Amen. Edit-- Maybe I ought to face my own bias here... some people should dive more than they post. Some people, on the other hand, say things I agree with. ;)

Not everyone thinks cave diving is the pinnacle of SCUBA!

Tell me this Mr. Rambo-- I invite you to look over every post I've ever made on this forum or any other, and remind me where I've suggested any physical violence or altercations underwater. This thread got underway as an attempt to prove how cave divers as a group are a bunch of jerks. At this...

Dude, we get it. You've made your point very clearly, if anyone touches you you'll kill us. Congratulations, you win, I am officially scared of you and definitely hope we don't cross paths.

I also know Cathy fairly well, and it's hard to imagine there's not something more to that story. For one thing, she's a sweetheart, but that's not what I mean. What I also know is that she's no dummy and she has a business to run. People doing cavern diving & training use mostly open water...

Not everyone thinks cave diving is the pinnacle of SCUBA!

Yep. I've encountered butthead cave divers. I've encountered a lot more that were just the nicest people. Same with shop owners. Hell, just now we've learned there are OW divers out there who brag about how big their knife is and that are just itching for a chance to 'defend themselves'...
