So I am not the only person roasting this moron....

I've been in a few silt-outs, a couple or so that were hellacious, and yes it makes an impression. But making a big show of thanking God, mom, and the academy to have lived through the nightmare?

So I am not the only person roasting this moron....

My interest fizzled when he told us he's a super cave diver. After hearing that, the thought of spending the next 17 minutes listening to his silt-out story just makes me tired. Anyone inclined to give an executive summary?

Really nice write-up, and some really awesome photos!

ppO2 for nitrox, why so low?

Your main worry isn't lung damage. The main worry is going into convulsions, there is no healing after that. It's not something you'd want to tolerate any significant risk at all.

    Recreational overheads, especially wrecks

I think it's a good article. In my opinion it's not written in a way to encourage someone who wouldn't be likely to get themselves into trouble on their own. But someone who takes the time to read it might become aware of some things to think about that they might not otherwise. I do believe...

If you had to pick 1 cave...

Olivier at Oliv'air is awesome, and the people around the Lot area show as much kindness to strangers as I've ever encountered. The countryside there is definitely the most beautiful I've ever seen traveling between sites. Air France does seem to hate me, and I hate them back.

Never dove; Hi from Tomball/Houston TX

Local diving options in the Houston area are pretty limited. There are a couple of lakes: 288 Lake near the beltway and 288, and Blue Lagoon in Huntsville. These are generally not great visibility but they work for training, checking gear, practising skills and the like. Cozumel is a pretty...

Never dove; Hi from Tomball/Houston TX

Talk to Carl Griffing at Sea Sports Scuba in Katy. He's an excellent instructor and a wealth of knowledge. He'd be able to discuss in some detail about anything you're likely to be interested in.

12 boys lost in flooded Thai cave

The bizarre thing is I just heard "Big Bottoms" on the radio yesterday and I've been walking around belting that out ever since, and then I noticed the volume control this morning. That's probably the second or third time I ever heard one of those songs on the radio.

    Why no poor man's rebreather?

The words "holy crap" were circling in my brain while reading through the slides, then I got to the one that shows where the name comes from. That is genius!

12 boys lost in flooded Thai cave

Probably a little simpler still, and more effective, to just leave them a few O2 bottles to breathe from periodically. Venting it all out would probably do very little and for a very short time. Is there an account they really did it that way? Just putting myself in the shoes of someone that...

12 boys lost in flooded Thai cave

How is it more useful? If my thoughts and prayers don't do anything at all, they at least don't weigh anything and can get around tight corners. If the next batch of kids get stuck in the deposit tube at the bank, I'll concede. But if someone really wants to help, they put actual work into the...

12 boys lost in flooded Thai cave

Just spent a few seconds trying to muster some suitable sarcasm, but no way I will be up to the task. I hope they're having fun lugging that thing around a pool.

Careful- if you mention training with Edd three times in front of a mirror, bamafan will appear behind you.

    Cave Fills on LP tanks

Cave divers, the debate can end, the bottom line is written: your protestations of hundreds of thousands of fills performed without incident are distractions, a feeble attempt to divert attention from the real issue. As has now been shown inarguably, YOU ARE IN VIOLATION OF DOT REGULATIONS which...

    Wakulla Springs B-Tunnel Video (WKPP)

Awesome video! This isn't what I would have ever expected from the descriptions I've heard of Wakulla- I guess I assumed it was all dark walls and never great visibility.

And that the pressure needed to do it is beyond what any dive shop compressor on the planet is capable of. Definitely an awesome video though--
