HOG D1 2nd's and Edge Epic First

If you disassemble the reg to get to the exhaust valve, be very careful. It doesn't take much to break the cross-member support that the valve sits on. How do I know, you ask? I have a broken Hog first stage with only 4 dives on it...

    Jupiter dive report 9-29-12

The current is back with a vengence! We had two or three weeks with no current and it was so nice while it lasted. We went south of Jupiter in 100+ feet. Vis was 70-80'. Bugs were not as plentiful as they had been the past few weeks. It was really tough going, even with my scooter, and I had to...

New reg advice needed: Scubapro/atomic/mares. If you would be so kind...

I recently bought a set of HOGs for my main tank and pony. Reason: I intend to perform the maintenance myself. I have two 1st and 2nd stage Apeks reg setups (TX-100 and the ATX-200) that I am going to sell. Any Aqualung / Seaquest dealer should be able to service Apeks. Apeks was purchased...

    Pro Plus 2 Computer question

OK, same algorithm but 2x as many bubbles. That is good to know. That being the case, I'm sure I was getting bum info. I sent it back to Oceanic and got a remanufactured one back. It looks brand new; not a scratch on it. They did not offer an analysis of the failure mechanism, nor did they...

    Jupiter dive report 9/16/12

If you listened to the weather report yesterday (Sunday 9/16/12) you missed out! NOAA was calling for up to 5' waves. Even when a rain cloud passed by around 10:00 the waves were only 2-3. Most of the day was flat to 1-2'. Dirty water close to shore due to the rain run off did not affect the...

sea quest bc repair need parts

I found a company called Scuba-fix.com that has a DIY kit for repair of the inflator fitting and dump valve fittings. I haven't used it. Kind of expensive...

    Seaquest Balance inflator attachment

I have an older Seaquest BC that has a broken BC fill valve assemble. It was my wife's and looks brand new, otherwise. Apparently the plastic material gets brittle over time. I did an internet search and found a company called Scuba-fix that sells repair kit for BCs fill and dump valve...

Rust inside steel tanks failing visual inspection

I agree it's rediculous. That doesn't include the vis+ either, which I think is $30 now. That is the 3rd tank I've had to do in about the past year. I'm going to inspect prior to taking in for vis from now on and do the tumble myself (after I McGiver me one together). I saw one on here that...

    Pro Plus 2 Computer question

I know the computers are different, but assume they use similar algorithms. My pro plus 2 has a total of 6 bubbles while the pro plus has the entire right side of the screen as a graph. I'm just thinking that if we were diving similar depths and durations our O2 loading should be about the...

    Pro Plus 2 Computer question

Here is my problem: The information in the manual is written as if the computer is working properly. My question is based on the post dive display info that I posted, does the O2 loading and alarm info that was presented during the dive make sense? Mine is set for 1.60, so shouldn't I get a...

Rust inside steel tanks failing visual inspection

Thanks all for weighing in on this. I don't think the dive shop is being unscrupulous about the rust existing. I'm sure there is rust of some sort, flash or otherwise (It's a nitrox tank, so I don't know how to make that call). Most of my fills have been at Jensen since they closed the Stuart...

Rust inside steel tanks failing visual inspection

I was running late today, so I'll try tomorrow to get a look inside. The kid (the one with the scientific explanation, above) said the whole inside was coated.

    Pro Plus 2 Computer question

You are correct. I was close, with two bubbles in the yellow prior to my ascent. My graphs looked exactly like the picture above. At the end of my safety stop I was down to one yellow bubble. Does my O2 loading sound normal to you at that depth, length of dive and max PPO2?

Rust inside steel tanks failing visual inspection

Dive shop told me even a couple hundred pounds in a tank could be at lower pressure than the air that is in the hoses which could have moisture in it from the reg. Huh? My brain hurt after that explanation! I'm droppping off some other tanks today, so I'll take a look at the rusty tank then...

Rust inside steel tanks failing visual inspection

My steel tanks fail vis inspection just about every time and need to be tumbled due to rust, at $45 a pop. How and why is this happening and what can I do to prevent it. I never bleed the air completely out, leaving a couple hundred pounds at least until I get to the dive shop where they bleed...

    Pro Plus 2 Computer question

No, we both have 1.60 set. I was thinking of going to 1.50, since I'm not a young as I used to be... My primary concern is making sure the computer is working correctly.

    Pro Plus 2 Computer question

I have had my Pro Plus 2 for several years. I bought it new. Manuf date 01/04. S/N AY-007158. I would like confirmation that it is working correctly. I seem to remember the oxygen loading graph loading up with more "bubbles" in the past. Maybe I'm just on drugs. My buddy has the older style...

    Jupiter Dive Report

We dove yesterday south of Jupiter in 105' and found very light north current. Vis wasn't bad at the bottom maybe 30' but it was pretty dark due to all the dirty water above. We got 17 bugs on 3 solo dives. We heard reports of a few trap lines in the area again. Get the bugs before the...
