There's also Northwest Scuba that does padi discover local diving trips 1-2 times a month from may-the lakes ice over! Great way to meet other divers and get some certs while learning about the local dive sites!!!
i also guess the way i look at it is i become an instructor to teach, and help other dives so morally i wouldnt be able to stand by and let someone get hurt or die. . .
Thats a good set of regs and there popular in alberta where we dive in that water temp all the time. Sometimes even the best regs freeze up for no reason. Two tricks Ive learned as well is to shove 2 fingers into the mouthpiece the second is like you said afterwords turn your tank valve off...
i have a spare air becuase one the year i got my DM card they had a deal for Spare Air and i got one for about 1/3rd of the cost. If i remember to bring it i will or if i dont trust a strange buddy. I did take it too a dive tank and figured out i get 4 full breaths off it at 20feet. So thats...

you also have to remeber the DM is class room, pool skills, pool assistance and openwater assistance so it really only eliminates one aspect. and it doesnt save you time it only makes it more convient
