PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy - worth doing?

Take it if you think you will enjoy the class. You don't need it, however. If you just go diving your buoyancy will improve. The cert card is totally useless. No one will ever ask you for it.

Proposed Ship Reef off Galveston Texas

There's already plenty of stuff in the Gulf off of Freeport (liberty wrecks , star reef, active rigs, etc.) a short distance from Galveston (a one hour drive) that few ever bother to dive. The fishermen will drop lines on it every weekend but I bet I'll never even see any underwater photos or...

Gross, disgusting behaviour on the boat

That's nothing. Once while doing a safety stop I saw the boat captain pooping over the side of the boat a dozen feet above my head. Ugh.

    Dive Condition Reports

Lake Murray (Oklahoma). February 1, 2014. We entered between the metal tower and cabin cruiser near the swimmer's jumping cliff on the south side and exited at the point nearest the cabin cruiser. We got as deep as 79 feet and the vis was great at all depths. No living marine animals were...

    Dive Condition Reports

January 25, 2014. San Marcos, TX. Drifting down the San Marcos river once again. I've been here January 2013 and June 2013. On my first visit I was on a trash cleanup and I didn't even think of bringing a camera so no photos or video that trip. But I did realize it might be a good place to take...

    Dive Condition Reports

I've been here before on June 1, 2013 but my video was bad because I didn't get my camera set up correctly and the lens fogged. No fogging this time. I dove a small pool at the one of the outlets of Spring Lake. The pool is at the base of an artificial waterfall. It's near the Saltgrass...

    Dive Condition Reports

The Blue Lagoon. October 26, 2013. I came to camp out and do the underwater pumpkin carving contest with the Diving Rebels. Vis was excellent. I don't know how many feet but buddy contact was very easy to maintain. Water temp was 68F. I did one 48 minute dive at lagoon 2 and explored a...

    Dive Condition Reports

Sunday, October 20, 2013 Lake Murray (Marietta Landing Campground) School starting and cooler temps drove away non-divers (who stir up silt like crazy) and made Marietta Landing Campground a good place at Lake Murray to dive again. Vis was good. Water temps were 60sF. Sunny and nice on the...

why are there very few young divers?

Lack of money is the main reason They are super healthy and have plenty of time. NAFTA, China being allowed to join the WTO, H1-B visas, etc limited their income prospects.

    Dive Condition Reports

9/22/2013. Vis was quite variable as usual. Good in some spots and some places you could barely see your own fins. I'm 6'3"ft tall so you tell me what that means to you. The crab trap, steel tower, some wrecks (including the cabin cruiser of course), and other unnamed places along the south side...

Any condition reports from CSSP this past weekend (9-7, 9-8)?

Nope. All the best places to dive along the south end of the lake are goat path entry. There are easy places to get in but the dives are a bore. On Lake Murray the more difficult the entry the better the dive.

    Dive Condition Reports

Most of the time no. Occasionally there's a boat that brings OW students to the cabin cruiser area or ties up to the steel tower. If they do that I just go to an alternate site that has no crowd stirring up the silt.

    Dive Condition Reports

Lake Murray 9/8/13. Vis was as good as ever. Temps were in the 80sF above the thermocline at 30ft. We had a great time was feeding the fish. We gave them some fried chicken bones and skin. They went insane. It drew a crowd and they loved it. Forget the hot dogs. Bring throw away bones and other...

Diving at the bottom of a waterfall

Yes. I've done it. It's pretty cool to see what it looks like underneath and behind where the water is falling from above. I wish my camera lens hadn't fogged during this dive. :-( But it gives me an excuse to go back sometime. :-) I had a blast. http://youtu.be/C0L4iLPLwEg

Is anyone going to Lake Murray this weekend? (8/17 or 8/18)

I want to do two tanks. One I want to one do off of the spillway. I've never been there before and I want to explore it. Then 2nd tank there's lots of good places on the South side along the metal tower area that are fun. Is anyone up to it?

    Diving in Texas?

I'll add that the Summer is the time to dive here. The water (fresh and salt) warms up nicely. And for Gulf dives the water clarity peaks. Finally, the Gulf weather is much more agreeable in the Summer and less likely to cause a boat trip to be cancelled.

Dallas area diving August - December?

Clear Spring Scuba Park is "clearly" different and Lake Murray (near Ardmore, Ok) are much closer. They're easier to do as a day trip from Irving and popular places to dive for people living in the D/FW area.
