These are unbelievably widespread Dee. They're all over in Asia. If you have the Debelius crustaceans book he mentions how ridiculously long ago they evolved (which they worked out by means of how they got in both oceans whilst remaining in warm water (there are apparently records proving they...
Will take a swing at #62. either Cichlasoma sp. or Poecilia mexicana (http://www.fishbase.org/summary/SpeciesSummary.php?id=3227). Based on the fish to the left I say Poecilia.
All this talk about the O and earlier the Sg have got me thinking - Does everyone get the same buzz diving a deliberately scuttled reef as a wreck with real history to tis sinking? Is anyhting lost because of the sanitization of the wrecks or the lack of a backstory?
I've dived a few wrecks...
I wonder how often divers assume someone is a dm because they do something we might perceive as "dm-like". Doing a group dive in asia with some inexperienced divers, the dm suggested I ride off the back of the group with the ops trainee dm so I could take pics out of the way and we could duck...
I can remember seeing a rather intense looking shot of a female silvvertip with a little pup riding shotgun to one side but haven't seen/heard of any thing like that with the gws
I could be wrong but I'm fairly sure the "can-opener" is something sea-shepherd use not greenpeace, sea-shepherd being a totally different entity with I would say a much different outlook.
Only 3 tigers, of which only 1 acted inquisitively. Ultimately they all shot off. As I say I know the chances of harm are infintisimely small but the combination of "wow, a tiger, sweet!" and "that's longer tham my car" and the knowledge of what it could do (in the unlikely event it chose to) is...
I think I've messed up quoting your quote here Walter but I think we just have a different definition of worth worrying about :D . The 27 species listed as having attacked include a number of wobbegongs, nurse shark and small reef sharks. The "maybe 6" I referred to worrying about were the ones...
I did them both together as I felt o/w hadn't taught me enough of what I needed to know (nav. etc) moving forward. That said I'd done a fair amount of bsac training before opting to do PADI o/w so my buoyancy control was probably quite different to the average o/w passing diver.
Iagree it does look snake-eel like so perhaps:

The thing to remember is that not all sharks are dangerous, in fact of 430 odd species there are maybe 6 worth worrying about, none of which you are likely to see. You may well see sharks in the bahamas but the ones you do see are probably thinking "oh no its one of those weird scary bubble...
I started out with a stylus 300 and that had some limitations that stopped it being a good u/w camera (which was a shame as the weatherproof casing made it great - mine survived a flood at 30m!) - mainly in the lack of manual control - I can't really tell whether this has been resolved in this...
