Protea is pretty good (he says with great understatement). I can confirm with some smugness that you can add the possibility of seeing dolphin, blacktips and humpback whales to that list.:D Also I found this sweet nudibranch but for some reason the dm seemed more interested in the school of...
I'll open the batting then, shall I? For me Malapascua in the Philippines is the ultimate destination so far. Why? because of the variety it offers. There aren't many sites but when on the same dive site you can see 3m+ thresher sharks, mantas and pygmy sea horses and nudis who needs lots of...
of course you can - you did the dives and its your log so stick them in. The logbook can serve lots of purposes but they are all designed to help you so keeping a record of all your experiences is useful.
If you do go back to any of those first 10 dive sites you'll have something to remind...
Some aquarists propagate some hard corals by snapping bits off with pliers and gluing them onto a new rock or soft corals by cutting them up with scissors. I think from this we can take it that a touch doesn't necessary kill a coral.
It certainly can though, and any coral which is knocked...
I think for me the difference is the time it could take the shark population to recover from these losses (when combined with other pressures ie longlining). Deer/turkeys are both, as I understand it better populated now than at any time in US history and their population recruits replacements...
Congratulations - good photos of a bit of an oddity I think:
Cepola macrophthalma (Red bandfish)
http://www.fishbase.org/Summary/speciesSummary.php?ID=56&genusname=Cepola&speciesname=macrophthalma
tell that to the diver who lost a finger p~ssing one off last year. They've got serious teeth and will use them.
Handling any fish or animal could result in serious consequences for the fish. Many have mucous thta if lost can lead to infection, interaction can expose them to predators etc...
:D
hee hee. I think we all know that feeling wildcard.
the other day I came across this which apparently I regarded as a "keeper" at the time (yes that red blob is the oly housing lens cap):
In my defense the viz off Singapore is pretty bad but still.
Have you all noticed that...
When not over a shallow bottom I use a snap coil as illustrated and have a wrist strap over my camera holding arm's wrist. I also have a bolt snap on one strobe arm so when I want to go hands free I can close the snap and add a second attachment point. When I'm over sand such as for the scenario...
This link makes some interesting points re shark intelligence:

I was lucky enough to see this chap talk at the European Elasmobranch Association conference a couple of years ago and his talk was fascinating and funny.
not strictly true anymore - the Collins guide has 440 species of sharks (but no rays). The Elasmobranch is a fairly good (And v. interesting book) but not massively complete if you are travelling a lot and are interested in smaller species/obscure carcharhinids. How much stuff do you want to id...
the best id book is probably the new collins guide but its quite technical, not diver specific and not that great for field id's (IMO):

that actually makes me feel better cos at least they're less likely to be pulling out pregnant females like that mokarran in florida earlier this month. I thought female sharks were usually the larger though?
A friend of mine was a millitary pilot and by all accounts a very good one, one night after a few beers he was telling me about a number of close friends he'd lost as a result of what they did and the jist of it was of his very close friends at (whatever the pilot equivalent of) graduation a...
