First dive with EANx32 second with air.....

why? I don't remember learning this rule and can think (off the top of my head) of no specific reason for it if the equivalent operating depths/suitability of EANx for the dive suggets to go the other way round.

    Best Way To Log Dives?

ditto - I think the act of creating the page itself focusses you on what you in particular want to get out of your logging. If anyone is interested in doing this there are an absolute shedload of different custom pages buried in scubaboard's archive esp the DIY section. I went through them...

    Shark Attacks on the Fall

If you're talking about hte smae quote I saw, wow indeed. Particularly maleducated was the comparison to a "responsible conservationist like Cousteau" who much as I love him surely stands up no better and perhaps even worse than Irwin to their complaints.

    Bohol? Malapascua?

sea explorers are also in Alona so you could potentially use them throughout.

    Alone in Malapascua

Sea explorers are similar on a per dive I think but they do an unlimited package that is about $55 a day so if you do 3-4 dives it starts to pay off quite nicely.

    Question on stingray tails

the tip doesn't constitute a spine but I suspect it could a) give you a bit of a discouraging crack if flicked and b) perhaps increase the speed of the spine itself lower down the tail. eagle ray spines are often found sticking out of the faces of mokorran which suggests their main use is as...

    Identifying My Photos

everything seemed to have a name on it already except the anemones? Of these the thin white tentacled ones and the purple ones are Cerianthus or a related genus and the red weird one is a sea apple, a type of cucumber.

How to handle "friendly" or "curious" sea life?

I was never bothered by seasnakes in my time in the pacific but I did see a lot of both sea krait species and I think its fair to say they'll get a lot closer to you than you would allow such a venemous snake to if you were on land. They are pretty docile (the sort of calm that comes from...

    Blackbeard Cruise Info

I'm only 5 11 but I can't really remember feeling cramped at all....well thats not really true cos its hardly kingsize but I don't remember feeling cramped lengthways if that makes sense. You might want to ask for a bunk in the main section though as we were in the cabin at the bow and I reckon...

    TV show handfeeding Makos

Thats the show I was thinking of (although it doesn't sound quite like the show the OP mentioned which I'm guessing may have been Extreme Contact). From memory there was an interesting moment with a small mako with a massive bite mark on it. It flaked out mid-dive and they get out of the water...

    Porteguese Man-o-War nearly killed me.

I've pretty much stopped wearing my shorty now. Not cos of stings but cos no matter what protection I used I ended up with brutal sunburn on the back of my calves by the end of a trip and a stupid tanline.

    Diving the Deep Depths

Not having been to Roatan I can't comment on how things are there but typically most dives to that depth at tourist resorts tend to be multilevelled so you spend a minimum amount of time at that depth and work shallower. If you feel uncomfortable by all means sit out or ask to go shallower...

    Help save albatrosses

I don't think so but you don't have to put in your email and can tick the don't send me stuff box (which should prevent all mailings/contact). I have a separate email address I just use for these sorts of things for the same reason.

    Malapascua island or Panglao island???

This is true. One tip I do have for Lighthouse and Monad Shoal is to pick your dive guide with care. After surfacing from one dive on lighthouse replete with cuttlefish, octopus, blue ringed octopus, bobtail squid, spawning mandarins and seahorses we were chatting about what we'd seen when a...

    Malapascua island or Panglao island???

I did both Alona and Malapascua 2 years ago. I'm going back to Malapascua this year but not Alona so that pretty much sums up my view. For me Monad Shoal off Malapascua has to rank as one of the 10 best dive sites anywhere in the world (Threshers & Mantas down to nudis mantis shrimps and pygmy...

    Help save albatrosses

Well this is sort of dive related as I'm sure a number of us have seen these fabulous birds on dive trips and some of the threats to them also threaten other animals divers love like turtles. The idea is to collect 100,000 names which, rather soberingly is the number killed each year by...

tacky maybe but the history books (or rather biology books) would [probably] still say archmanii long after the social furore was forgotten :D

    Your good experiences with sharks

I've dived with 25 species so far, with pretty much each experience being more awesome than the last. here's some (bad) pix of the last one.
