My father used to dive some rapids on the Delaware. Got some good loot from people who capsized their canoes and didn't tie down their gear. I'll ask him where he used to do it.
I always liked Willow Springs better than Dutch. Dutch was always too crowded and a bit pricier. I never had visibility issues at Willow and the only time I didn't at Dutch is when my buddy and I went there on an early morning in November.
We always dove year round in PA. I even got certified during a snowstorm. One of the best things about NE PA is that you're less than 5 hours from the Thousand Islands, best wreck diving out there as far as I'm concerned. As for a career, you could dive in PA during the summers and head south...
There are several steamship wrecks around the southern end of Moosehead. I haven't dove on them yet but there's supposed to be a graveyard of sorts just off the old station in Greenville Junction. I happened upon this other wreck in a conversation with a friend who has a camp near there.
I'm...
Heading to Dutch or Willow Springs might be worth the drive. I've heard a rumor that there was a town at the bottom of Wallenpaupack but I'm not sure if it's true. I heard that a church steeple was within safe diving limits. Let us all know if you find out anything.
Not for dive training but...
Anyone interested in joining me for some diving in Moosehead lake, Maine. I want to dive on a steamship wreck. The dive isn't deep and I have a younger buddy who needs the experience.
Let me know when you're coming. Sebec has some cool geographic formations. I'm going to head up to Moosehead to dive on an old steamer that was burned when the company didn't need it anymore. It should be pretty cool.
Scuba Doula,
I got certified in PA but I love Maine diving. I'm hoping to get some people together to do some wreck diving up to Moosehead Lake. Let me know if you'd be interested in joining us. Maine diving is great, especially Eastport.
Trappist, thanks for the report. Very interesting. I've considered a kayak dive before but I always wondered about the practicality. I might have to add it to my list of things to do. I do have a question. What size semi-dry were you using and did you have it all zipped up prior to heading out...
Willow Springs, west of Reading can be fun. You're not far from the Thousand Islands. Hop up Scranton and then onto 81 north, you'll be there in five to six hours. Best wreck diving in the world, according to me. The drive is really easy and the scenery is beautiful.
Dive for awhile and get used to having fun. Then decide if you want a computer. The easiest solution is usually the least complicated. Learn to trust your own skills and your own gauges.
I agree with the alien registration card argument. Good luck. When are public servants going to get it. Being a public servant (teacher) myself, it infuriates me to no end when other public servants seem to forget their jobs, as in part of their job is customer service. I just think they should...
Take a trip to the coast of Maine and you can get them cheaper than 10 bucks a pound. Scallops seem to be a bigger bang for the buck than lobster. Either way, they're both tasty...
I feel the need to express an opinion,
Thank God the government of Mass is protecting us (well, our lobsters...
All this talk of temps is cool but what we all really want to know is:
Where there any vicious attacks from lampreys on these check-out dives? If so, any video?
I wouldn't mind doing some wreck hunting. I used to be a hydrographer so I have quite a bit of side-scan and multi-beam sonar as well as GPS mapping. I don't have much time but we'll have to keep in touch.
