Buying used BCD - what to check?

How about the dump valve? It was around that time that the RF welded fittings on my bladder started to crumble. Simultaneously for the elbow connection and the dump valve.

Buying used BCD - what to check?

Look for fading. It means that it has been left out in the sun for too long. UV damages plastic and fabric. Check for the fittings welded to the bladder. They degrade/crumble with age. Excessive scuff marks/excessive wear. It means the previous owner was not very careful with the BC.

    How Did You Go Solo?

A key part of getting solo certified is showing maturity and a safe attitude. AFAIK (for SDI at least) the instructor has the right to refuse to give you the certification even if you pass the technical requirements if he/she thinks that you will be unsafe as a solo diver. There is a reason why...

    How Did You Go Solo?

I do not think there is solo tech certificate, but I do know some who do solo tech dives. I personally do not do solo tech dives and think a qualified buddy/team with that extra brain is very important for tech diving because of the risks involved. Planning tech dives is much more involved and...

    How Did You Go Solo?

Did it "illegally" for some time and the finally got the proper cert (SDI). I started by entering the water with a group and telling them beforehand that I will be going my own merry way and that I'd joint them after so and so minutes during the safety stop. Then I started striking out on my own...

Wanted Apeks DIN Conversion Kit (Not Adapter)

Says so in the title - Apeks. All Apeks DIN conversion kits are functionally the same. They just differ cosmetically.

Wanted Apeks DIN Conversion Kit (Not Adapter)

Perhaps you have one lying around gathering dust. Metal or plastic/composite hand wheel will do just fine. Please shoot me a PM, preferably with pics. Thanks!

    Noisy Apeks 1st stage

They are made by Thermo in Italy, as almost is every other SPG in the market.

    Noisy Apeks 1st stage

This is around 12 years old. Identical to a Thermo one. A bit jittery on the low pressure side but usable.

    Noisy Apeks 1st stage

They still look and work the same. I own 8 complete sets plus a few "orphan" 1st and 2nd stages. They are mostly 2nd hand from the TX to the latest XTX flavor.

    Noisy Apeks 1st stage

Oscillations. Happened to me but more of a monotone. Someone suggested to change the mainspring. I took it apart and did an overhaul. After putting it back together, I realized that I made an error and did not swap the main spring (I marked it). The noise went away. My theory was inadequate...
