    Apeks wing?

Just get the 30. More flexibility with negligible difference in drag and packing weight/bulk.

Which Apeks Backplate? WTX Aluminium vs WTX Ultralight

Definitely aluminum, as steels are usually used for drysuit diving in cold water. They are actually very rare in the tropics.

Which Apeks Backplate? WTX Aluminium vs WTX Ultralight

That is the "attitude" your body would take if you just "relaxed" on the surface with a fully inflated wing. Not fully face down but not with your face up as you might be used to. I should have added the word "tendency". At least in my case when diving a "light" rig. Doesn't seem to happen with...

Which Apeks Backplate? WTX Aluminium vs WTX Ultralight

From what I have read, as I have no firsthand experience with soft harnesses, the main difference is stability. The only sure way to see what you like is to try them both if possible. I actually do not personally know anyone, or have seen someone dive with a soft plate.

Which Apeks Backplate? WTX Aluminium vs WTX Ultralight

They look the same aside from the weight. The only way to see the difference is to "handle" them. OMS is also a good brand but they seem to be prone to fading. If you do decide to go for the OMS, get the ones without the bungees, if available. Here is a thread on soft vs. hard plates on SB...

Which Apeks Backplate? WTX Aluminium vs WTX Ultralight

I see. That is an entire discussion on its own. Search SB and you will see a TON of results on that. Personally, it has to do with maintaining proper trim, streamlining, simplicity, lack of failure point with the continuous webbing, "infinite" adjustability, and having the same system for all...

Here is my travel Al set: Not bulky at all.

Which Apeks Backplate? WTX Aluminium vs WTX Ultralight

I came across these: This would make stowing the cam bands much easier. Now I'm interested in getting a pair. :-D

Which Apeks Backplate? WTX Aluminium vs WTX Ultralight

I'm too lazy to try it, but has anybody tried going "STA-less" with a Halcyon backplate? I sandwiched the backplate between a twinset and a single tank. Doesn't seem to be very stable.

Have you considered sidemount? Although, it would entail more cost on training. Here is video I did a few years ago.

Ah OK. Why not just rent the BCD? You can still bring your own mask and computer. The reg might also be heavy/space occupying if you are traveling. If you are not backpacking, I find the bulk to be more problematic than the weight. I have an STA that weighs only 327 g/0.72 lbs.

Which Apeks Backplate? WTX Aluminium vs WTX Ultralight

Will you be doing a lot of traveling? That is the only advantage of the soft plate. Using the STA allows you to remove the cam bands from the backplate easily making it easier to pack. Aren't there other retailers in Indonesia aside from the ones in Bali? The padding is only useful out of the...

Which Apeks Backplate? WTX Aluminium vs WTX Ultralight

Go for the aluminum plate. Much more versatile than the soft plate. It can also shave at least 2 lbs from your weight belt. It looks like you are on a budget. You should not dismiss the "generic" backplate and continuous webbing harness systems which could save you a lot of money. For your peace...

    How dangerous is this ?

From the Luxfer tank ins pection guide: "Without a recommended torque from the valve manufacturer, we would recommend a torque of 50 lbf-ft, plus or minus 10 lb-ft. All torquing should be done such that valve, valve components and cylinder are not damaged." For reference the lug nuts of your...

    How dangerous is this ?

Totally unrelated but both just as serious. Both can cause catastrophic gas loss. The free-flow is at least visible from the get-go. The valve is more insidious as the tank o-ring could have extruded at depth.

    Regulator Suggestions for the Wife

Buy her a reg that will make a good deco reg someday. :-)

    Apeks MP = 15bar

A friend had a funny and cautionary tale about that. It seems that he had less than 10 Bar in the tank he was using to service the reg without knowing it. Then he tried to use another tank with full pressure...... You know what happened next.

    APEKS tools

The inline orifice adjuster works for lots of 2nd stages not just Apeks. Not necessary but very convenient. I prefer a soft silicone tool to remove the 2nd stage cover which will work for most 2nd stages. The keys are model specific.
