From what I have read, as I have no firsthand experience with soft harnesses, the main difference is stability. The only sure way to see what you like is to try them both if possible. I actually do not personally know anyone, or have seen someone dive with a soft plate.

Go for the aluminum plate. Much more versatile than the soft plate. It can also shave at least 2 lbs from your weight belt. It looks like you are on a budget. You should not dismiss the "generic" backplate and continuous webbing harness systems which could save you a lot of money. For your peace...

Totally unrelated but both just as serious. Both can cause catastrophic gas loss. The free-flow is at least visible from the get-go. The valve is more insidious as the tank o-ring could have extruded at depth.

The inline orifice adjuster works for lots of 2nd stages not just Apeks. Not necessary but very convenient. I prefer a soft silicone tool to remove the 2nd stage cover which will work for most 2nd stages. The keys are model specific.
