Just bought 1st reg/gauge set from LDS used, good deal or they dump junk on me?

Only in a parallel universe.... Everything is the same, except that donuts fall out of the sky and you have to have a cert to even drive past a dive shop.

Ummm, you must be really cute! ;)

Pony Bottles: Good or bad...where to wear them etc

I don't have one yet, but wouldn't nitrox for an 100ft+ emergency be pretty good if you were previously breathing air? Even with EAN36, you're not going to CNS tox immediately and the boost in oxygen to the brain should get you thinking straight pretty quickly... Wouldn't this be a good idea?

There's a good thread on Deco Stop about this.

    Deceptive LDS practices..RANT...

Car dealers, both new and used, have spent most of the last century building up a reputation of shady and dishonest business practices. Are you suggesting that dive shops do the same?

So... What's up with the lack of octo perfomance ratings?

My wife has a Gyro. It's like breathing through a sponge.

    Recognizing DCS

I know the 5 minute psycho test and the minimization factors. The question is about how to distinguish true bends from chronic aches and pains that many people have for a variety of reasons. For example, I have a separated shoulder that has long healed, but can still hurt sometimes. It's on...

    Octo or Air 2

I have the Atomic SS1. I think the whole "the inflator is going to go crazy and inflate you BC until you're a Poseiden Missile" is a red herring. First, the whole unit is very high quality. The SS1 reg breaths as well as my B2. Secondly, the whole unit comes off and gets stored in the reg...

    Recognizing DCS

Good questions Jim. I sometimes wonder the same thing. I always have neck and upper back aches due to work stress. So far I've been assuming that: 1) if it's a place that usually hurts 2) it doesn't hurt more than normal +/- 10% due to lifting or exertion 3) stretching and massage mostly...

I've got the Brigade and it's brilliant. Pick up the crotch strap for added stability and the yellow weight bag inserts.

    Lost at Sea

This is one of my favorite subjects to harp about, so I will repeat myself. Folks, an old AOL CD is NOT the signal device that you want to have if you are lost in the big blue sea. Get a real signal mirror. Search for Rescue Reflectors or StarFlash to find one that has a chance of being seen...

What is the PADI "deep" specialty?

I only have OW, but I registered 62' on one of my last dives. I'd like to tell you is was real scary and challenging, but in fact, it was very similar to 59' 11" only 25" deeper. You gotta push the envelope if you're wanna improve. I'm planning dive to 64' this weekend!

    Curious about accident statistics

I'm pretty sure I got my OW training from "who you are thinking about" and the risks are certainly explained. I think what to stress is a function of the instructor. Our instructor made us very aware of the fact that we could die, get bent and be permanently injured under water. He also made...

Pros vs. Cons: Alt air on BC inflator?

Yep, which is why all the arguing about which alternate air config is best is really pointless and stupid. All three setups have some pros and cons and all will work well if you practice every once in a while.

Is selling Life Support Equipment on the Net Ethical ?

I just wish that more manufacturers would wake up and realize the benefits of direct internet sales. Not only lower cost to the buyer, but higher profits for the seller as well as a real understanding of who your customers are and what they want. Having a dive shop as a middle man just makes...
