    Baggage Charges

Continental doesn't, this is from their website (but delta does) Scuba Equipment Continental does accept one dive bag containing equipment used in the scuba-diving sport as part of the free baggage allowance. Scuba equipment in addition to the free baggage allowance will be assessed at the...

I want to go Apeks, but LDS pushing Scubapro

Free parts for life is not that good of a deal if you actually work out the numbers. Ask yourself what is the breakeven point? Assume the regulator set costs 1000 at the LDS and you can buy it online for 600. Assume that part kits are around 40 if you have to buy them. That means that your...

    Baggage Charges

There are definitely gear related charges. Delta I think charges 70 for scuba. There was a website that was posted a few months ago that lists all the charges from the various airlines.

    oms/dive rite..need advice

Scuba446, I dive with the 27# wing. You probably should have done the calculation or asked your LDS how much bouyancy you needed. I figured that for most of the time my BC is bascially completely empty. Remember that long ago people didn't dive with BC's at all, they weighted as neutral as...

Sorry LDS but I want to Dive

Gross margins at msrp seems to be about 50% for a lot of stuff (some has a lot smaller margins). So at 25% off he is still making some money even after SG&A, getting cashflow etc.

    DIR rig problem

I am 5 9, 150. In a 7 mil wetsuit, hood, and semi buoyant BC in salt water I wear 18 pounds on my weight belt. Since you have the backplate I would think you would be able to have less weight and considering its fresh water you should be able to have a lot less. Are you sure you are properly...

I don't get the wrist mount.

I drilled holes through the rubber compass housing and put bungees through it to make my compass wrist mounted. I switched from console to wrist mount and find it much easier to navigate and look at the gauges when they are on my wrist.

    DIRF, A Sobering Experience

I am a big believer in epidemiology in proving whether activities are safe are not. In the end, statistically speaking, current training does not result in massive numbers of injuries and is therefore pretty safe. Could it be safer? Of course, but potentially at diminishing returns. At some...

    Sipadan trip report

I get seasick really easily but have found that the less drowsy dramamine really worked for me. I was on a liveaboard for 3 days and took 2 less drowsy dramamine and was fine the whole time. I still use the original formula dramamine when I want to be knocked out on intercontinental flights.

    Seeking Lake Travis dive buddies.

Because of the bad vis it isn't worth it to dive with a buddy. You will spend the whole time looking for each other. I may go out on Wednesday by myself and just practice bouyancy. I don't mind spending a whole tank working on bouyancy. Right now I am working on maintaining a constant depth...

What do you do for pockets on a BP/wing setup with no wetsuit?

I am going to be diving in thailand and my friend said he doesn't wear a wetsuit because it is too warm. What should I do with regards to pockets?

    Best SS Backplate

As I posted in your last message thread Gary Hoadley sells backplates that completely setup with harness and single tank adapter. The wing installs via two bolts with wingnuts (takes zero skill). Fred T also sells a fully setup rig, but his list price is a bit more.

Liveaboards in Thailand Late aug to sept

It looks like we are going to dive phuket one day, sharks point one day and a wreck (not sure what it is) one day. Similans have bad weather this time of the year. Oh well.

    Scuba on TV

TIVO has been recording everything with the keyword scuba in it. The travel channel has a program called exotic islands which always seems to have a few short scuba segments on it. Without TIVO it may not be worth watching, but if you are interested in exotic islands it might be. The one I...

    Apex Atx200

You have to think very carefully about what a warantee is worth. What does it mean to have a warantee? For a standard limited liability warantee that is based on defects in workmanship only, warantee is a form of insurance and should be treated as such. This means that to calculate the value you...

    oms/dive rite..need advice

My advice: Backplates are a piece of solid metal with holes and slots and can either be aluminum or stainless steel. Webbing is a single piece of stiff nylon webbing. Good D-Rings are stainless steel. All of these items are commodities (are all essentially the same) and as such you should...
