    Proper weighting

The padi numbers turn out not to be too bad for me. I am 5 9" 150 and in salt water with a 7mm farmer john 18 pounds is just right (10% + 3-5). In fresh water and a single piece 3/2 full i I am neutral with 4 pounds and an empty tank. As far as water temps go, I get slightly cold at 78...

    Marfan and diving

The problem is that finding a doctor who actually has experience with Marfan's is probably rare. And one that knows anything or has experience with diving is going to be even rarer. Would it be better to go to a doctor that specializes in marfans or a doctor that specializes in diving?

    Can't get my trim right

I forgot to mention that bending my knees doesn't help. I have brought my knees all the way back and I still go vertical. I also tried going more heads down to change the line of center of gravity. This works, but I have to go nearly vertically inverted to be stable. I am trying to figure out...

    Can't get my trim right

I have worked for the last few hours of diving to get my trim correct. I read another thread about zept who had a similar problem to the one that I am having Aluminum backplate, one piece single tank adapter, 27# wing. 3/2 1 piece full wetsuit AL 80 fresh water No weightbelt. 5 9" 150...

    dehydration and DCS - gastrolyte

To keep hydrated during a day of boat diving I need to drink about .5 litre after each dive. After playing sports all day in the hot sun and keeping hydrated, my urine can be clear, but my tissues are so dehydrated that my urine will be dark just an hour or so later. I will typically go through...

    Marfan and diving

Does anyone know anything about Marfans and diving? I have read quite a bit on the net but can't find anything concise except for the don't do it because of the dangers of pneumothorax. Any comments?

The Great local dive shop vs. online debate

Mike I understand your frustration, but in the end it is your responsibility to create value for your customers. If you create value that your customers can perceive then you will thrive, if you can't then you will go out of business. I have read a lot of your posts and understand that you are...

    TSDT Labor Day 2002 activities...

With the lake as high as it is now, I am not sure that the stairs are a problem. The water is above the shoreline at windy point, there are no stairs showing. I am not sure how Mansfield is doing but probably about the same.

    booties maintanence

My fins came with plastic inserts to keep them from collapsing, I put those into the booties to keep them open. I then use a box fan and point it at the booties (and hanging wetsuit) in the shower (no tub). My neoprene dries out in a few hours this way and doesn't smell. I have also used dry...

    Solo

I dive solo when practicing skills down to about 50 ft or so. It just isn't that fun for someone if I am just floating from 35 to 25 and back down in 1 ft increments for an hour. :)

One year, 71 dives and Still need air.

Seaangel, buoyancy is one thing that is pretty easy to get. However trim appears to be much harder (I had buoyancy ok after only 5-6 dives) but am still working on trim. With proper trim you should be able to be motionless and completely horizontal. Right now my feet sink which means that I have...

    Baggage Charges

Actually I think it is pretty clear. They will charge you, but don't tell you how much. I just missed it :)

    Iron Eagle Review

Its pretty amazing to get both sides of the story, on the whole while I am not swayed by either post, I agree that he should not have resorted to ad hominem because it damages his credibility. Even if her claims are baseless, the damage is done and with all of the other boats out there I...

    SoCal soaking

"As for viz, ever swim in a vat of caramel syrup with lots of little particles in it?" That pretty much describes normal conditions at Lake Travis (Austin TX Divers). ""Texas Swamp Divers" But at least the water is completely still. I dove laguna beach a few months ago and vis was about...

    Baggage Charges

Call me a prude, but I would rather vote with my dollars than lie. American, Continental, southwest and america west do not have special charges for Scuba, Delta has a $75 charge and united has a "we will tell you at the gate" charge. US Air's policy is listed below. If they tried to charge...

Mike Ball Spoil Sport 'rip-off' exceeded $1600

Even if the price disparities weren't based on currency fluctuations I hardly consider it a "scam". Pricing based on ability to pay or location based pricing is commonplace and happens all of the time. You shouldn't be outraged by it, it certainly isn't unethical. In the past it was based on...

    Is lake Travis diveable yet?

I went diving in lake travis today. The vis was pretty bad and was made worse by all the students kicking up silt. Near the stairs above 30 ffw vis was between 1 and 5 feet. Between 30-50 ffw vis was about 5-8 feet. The water had a lot of particles which pretty much killed vis. Buddy diving was...
