I can ask a few of my dive buddies exactly where it is located. I have no idea who owns it now but it would be great to have good site right down the road from Springfield.
I think someone told me it was 30 to 40 feet deep but I don't remember any comments about visibility or how many acres...
My YMCA OW and AOW cards have always been accepted in Grand Cayman, Cozumel and St. Thomas. I carry a CMAS card as a back up. I was at Ginnie Springs last year and was told they rarely see a Y card but they were obviously familiar with the cert, I've got a great Y instructor. I'm starting...
I'll probably do my traditional trips to Gilboa this year ( one will probably be the Meet & Greet and I'd also like to do the DUI Day) Gilboa's primary competition is Whitestar and Portage. I like all three for different reasons. Whitestar and Portage are more convenient for me in terms of...
I've done my OW, AOW, and DAN O2 through my local YMCA instructor. (he made arrangements through a Columbus shop for the O2) I'll be taking Rescue with the YMCA in March/April. I'm thinking about going on to divemaster but I may not be able to get the training through our local YMCA program...
I took the DAN O2 course tonight and my instructor is a cave diver. I was talking to him about various gear issues at a break and he indicated it was not a good idea to buy used LP steel tanks on ebay. He said many of the tanks are used by cave divers and are often significantly overfilled...
I think Monroe Quarry is right down the road from Ann Arbor. My son is at UM and is in the process of getting certified. I was thinking about diving Monroe with him later this spring. If that doesn't work just head down I 75 and dive Portage Quarry. Its right next to Bowling Green. Its huge...
I've completed my YMCA OW and AOW and will be taking SLAM Rescue in March. I'm thinking about going on to divemaster. I know PADI has a 15 minute water tread, a timed 400 meter swim, a timed 800 meter snorkel/fin swim, and a timed 100 meter tow.
Anyone know what the stamina/physical tests...
I'm planning to be at a meeting at Carefree Resort on April 4 and am thinking about coming in a day early to dive Lake Pleasant. I saw that a dive boat operates on the Lake. Does anyone know if it runs in April and what the water temps will be?
Northen - Yes, our Y has a scuba program that I'm told goes way back. The instructor usually runs open water classes in the spring and fall. He will conduct AOW and other
courses when there is sufficient demand.
Since our diving options are limited here in frosty Ohio a group of us are getting together at the Y this weekend to discuss/schedule a Rescue class. It looks like we'll have law enforcement, fire service, and maybe even our local diving surgeon in the group so it should be a good mix Anyone...
I'm going to try to make it! It looks like there are some characters here who will make it a good time. Will there be heaters there for us old wetsuit divers?
Do you guys have an estimate as to water temp? I've layered my wetsuit before and was very comfortable in 54 degree water but........I think it would be way too cold.
Congratulations to all who braved the elements. I hope to join you when the weather gets a little warmer. It sounds like we have a pretty good group in the Columbus -Springfield - Dayton I 70 corridor.
I've been thinking about taking a rescue course this winter and I also want to get away for a weekend dive trip. I just read a weekend rescue course is available at the mine. It sounds like a great weekend. Has anyone taken any courses at the mine and if so what are your observations? Thanks.
Wow - you guys/gals must be hard core. I don't think my 7 mil suit could handle January temps at Gilboa. I was thinking of making a trip to Mt. Storm in March if the power plant is running and heating up the lake. Otherwise I'll probably be waiting until the warm April sun heats up the water...
