Goodbye Brian Howard (Wildcard)----Alaska & Hawaii

Boy, the first line in the Obit had me reeling! He died on his birthday and we are just finding out about it!? But, it was a misprint. Brian was a character and we will miss him. I hope your adventures continue, Brian! Aloha.

Sad News for Friends of Brian Howard

I have been away from the board for the weekend. This is very shocking news. He was a guy that was both serious and humorous. I'm glad I was able to dive with him and socialize a bit. Thanks for the photo, Leesa. RIP Brian!

    Console & Wrist overkill?

I'm not crazy about air integrated computers. I got one free so I use it. But I carry as a spare an analog pressure gauge (in my bag, not on my reg). I also have a wrist computer for depth and time, which, like TS&M, I reference more frequently. I like it right there. I don't think two...

    Experienced Divers and OOA emergencies

18 years, over 1,000 dives, no OOA. I came close once because I spent way too much time chasing an instabuddy against a current. Then I just thought "screw it" and ascended to ss, then to surface at the boat.

    Monk Seals...

Monk Seals are endangered. They are also lone animals. So it's not like sea lions or anything, where they are in groups. If you happen to see one on a dive, you need to consider yourself very fortunate!

    Overcoming scuba anxiety

Is there any way that you can dive more often locally? This would go a long way to helping you become comfortable in the water. I think Lynn is correct in what brought on the feeling. You did great in handling the rising panic. My opinion is that panic is what kills or injures divers...

On to OW, My Odyssey Through The Pool (warning: humor enclosed)

Very nice post! You are on your way to becoming a safe diver because you recognize that you need to constantly work on improving your skills. Before you purchase equipment, read carefully what other divers have to say. The big one is backplate & wing vs BC. Everyone has an opinion on this...

Women divers with backplates a question

Speaking of visability underwater, I got a hot pink DSS wing. Now that baby is visable! It is fading a bit now, but didn't lose much color at depth, even.

Why are so many female divers codependent?

Ladies! You will have to agree to disagree. And you will find it distasteful in some respects. I completely agree with Lynn, but then we are of similar ages. Respecting common courtesy is one thing. Pretending to need someone because it strokes their ego is another. I think this is where...

Help keep a newbie from getting reamed!

If you can stand it, though, there are some good points in those "discussions". Weed out the insults and see what makes the most sense to you. A good thread is what did you buy that you regret...

Spear Fisherman and Long Shore Fisherman

There isn't a map on the sign. I'll have to look at it a little closer this weekend to see what it says. The area I'm talking about, though, is the, what?, cove divers enter behind the firehouse before they swim over the rocks to the open water. It looks like a lagoon to me.

Spear Fisherman and Long Shore Fisherman

This was the area behind the firehouse, not the shallows behind the basketball court. The sign in the parking lot indicated it was protected.

What should families do with gear?

I don't like this idea because I have witnessed first hand how some folks behave when someone passes away and there is "stuff" like lawnmowers, etc. It is not a sight the family left behind should see. Please designate someone specific or an organization to get your dive gear.

Spear Fisherman and Long Shore Fisherman

Sunday there was a man and his small son who had a line in the shallow lagoon at Firehouse. I told him no fishing and he said OK and stopped (at least while I was there).

The Value of a Turtle - Split from the Honey Girl thread

As Catherine indicated, turtles are threatened much more by other factors. She mentioned the herpes virus. If that is what is causing the growths on many, many turtles (I'm not sure what the cause is), then I believe that threatens the turtles much more than a single sensless killing, which is...

    Anybody missing gear?

Well, I don't know if they are stolen, so I don't think I'll call the police. I'm just putting it here in case someone locally recognizes it. I mean, it could be something left over from a divorce, or a death or something and the person left with the equipment may not have the correct terms...
