    Atomic T2 Mounting Question

My tech guy said that if you look at it, there is a "protective" cap that should be facing up. He said that would give you some sort of protection if it gets banged on or something. With this cap facing up, the turret is in the down posiition.

The Chat Thread formerly known as "Friends request?"

I'm an old "guy" (well, lady) and I'm not so much a hum bug as a I don't get it. I've declined two people because I didn't know them and I didn't know (and still don't) what the significance of this is.

The Chat Thread formerly known as "Friends request?"

Oh, you mean a real friend, not a cyber friend. I get that, I really do! ;)

The Chat Thread formerly known as "Friends request?"

Well, I don't get this "friends" thing at all. I know it is all the rage in MySpace. I'm too old to understand this stuff. What does having friends on your profile at SB get you? Anything? Really, I do not understand it. I won't say it's creepy to get requests from someone who I don't...

Is it a bad idea to dive with NO ditchable weights?

Thal, So you would have time to ditch weights and surface safely before you blacked out, once the facial twitch appeared? I say surface safely because dropping your weights and rushing to the surface may bring on additional, and equally severe problems. I guess it's what everyone needs to...

Is it a bad idea to dive with NO ditchable weights?

But what sort of situation would bring about "abort dive and makes assessment that unconsciousness will occur prior to surfacing"? That is what I can't quite conceive of. Any ideas?

Is it a bad idea to dive with NO ditchable weights?

OK. Scenario #1: Like what? Out of air? If out of air, we are trained in OW how to handle that situation, and I know it was a long time ago, but ditching weights was not the answer. Controlled emergency ascent or buddy's air. Scenario #2 - we were also trained how to do that at depth in...

Is it a bad idea to dive with NO ditchable weights?

I agree with Lynne. Ditchable weights are very good to have at the surface in a paniced or even high anxiety situation. If your BC goes south and you swim up to the surface, then removing your BC would be the next best thing, if you have your head about you. By the way, how is the BC going...

    Working in Oahu...?

I think the law states that they have to offer an option, but they do not have to pay for it. I can't verify that with a quick search on the DOL website, though.

"Must Read" books for the beach bag

Probably old news, but if you haven't read Water for Elephants, read it. It is soooo good! It is about the circus life in the early 20th century. Beware: there is some animal (and human) cruelty. But it is necessary for the story. Just get through that part. Two surprises at the end. I...

Diver Died In West Palm Beach, Fl.

I went diving with a friend that had been out of the water for about a year. We were in a lake, wearing dry suits. As soon as we got in the water and descended a few feet, she had us go up, saying, "I can't breathe" I noticed quite a bit of anxiety and tried to calm her but she would not calm...

    Alpha "Dive" Flag

I don't want to read this entire thing and I don't have the answer to your specific questions. I did, however, make my own. I did two sides with a pocket running diagonally through the flag where I installed a dowel. There is obviously a pocket on the side as well to attach to whatever you...

    Lessons for solo diving novice

Off topic, but here goes. I hate it when people call others over-sensitive when offended by someone calling them stupid (or inferring it). There are better ways to state the ideas that have to do with civility. String, if someone made the comment that something (anything) you did was...

    Dive Shop Loyalty

Well, I think you should try the other shop. You need to find the one that best serves your needs, overall. The dive shops would answer that question differently, though. But that is what competition is for. One usually will out-shine the other in some way that draws you to it over the other.

    Diving while wearing contact lenses

Wow, all over the board for this. I wear disposable contact lenses and have my entire 20 years of active diving. I have never lost a lens. Let me rephrase: a lense has never come out of my eye. But, I carry spares, just in case. I went snorkeling one day and forgot to put on my mask...

    Diving on Oahu

Well, actually, my first 10 years of diving was in Puget Sound. So I started out as a cold water diver.

    Diving on Oahu

We stayed at a little fishing village on one of the islands. You have to take a boat from Port Hardy to get to it. Power is supplied by a generator. I can't remember the island name but the operation is God's Pocket. And, boy, what an appropriate name! We did a bunch of diving in Browning...

    PADI classroom anxiety

I suggest that she genuinely become interested in the material. We sometimes think the classroom sessions are a means to an end. But, really, the classroom stuff is the most basic things that will hold you in good stead in your diving career. (It's been a long time for me, though) There...
