    Redesigning AOW

I have read a few posts that include the recommendation to include Search and Recovery. Why?

If you could ask TSA two questions..

Why is it that the TSA takes a different approach to screening at each airport (i.e different way to search, different standards for the same item(s))? The second question would depend on the answer given to the first one.

    Redesigning AOW

The course should not be split into a series of one dive sections, but be focused on developing or improving skills. Note that Bob's description does not include any reference to Deep, Boat, Drift, Peak Performance Buoyancy,... I believe it would be much better to teach proper dive planning...

    Do Canadians have math problems?

And we bitch about the low standards in place to get an open water certification.

    The Canadian Seal Slaughter

Sorry, I shoud have said we hear nothing about the seals.

    I hate my snorkel!

Strap it next to the big knife that is attached to your leg.;) That way it is visible during the course. Then when you are done the training, do with it what you want. Personally, I spent the $15 on a collapsible one and keep it in my BCD pocket when I am working as a DM. It weighs next to...

    Aow=bs

Sounds great, but from a marketing perspective it makes it sound like someone who has taken OW did not receive the minimal training requried to dive. Maybe true, but a marketer's nightmare. No matter what the name is, I think that there will be folks who would not agree with what it means or...

    The Canadian Seal Slaughter

So much for the argument about cruelty to seals. I wonder if those folks in the HSUS, or the Europeans will be pressuring the grocery chains to stop selling poultry. The problem here is that the seal hunt is conducted in such a short period of time that the folks that want to make a stink...

    Do Canadians have math problems?

Ah, now I know why the Tim Horton's Roll up the rim to win contest is so popular. Never been asked to answer a skill testing question to get my free cup of coffee or bagel. If they tried that, the line up in the drive through would go nuts. We have to get our mathematics education somewhere.

    The Canadian Seal Slaughter

I suggest that the biggest reason why joint ventures are not considered/not viable is that the sides are so far apart philosophically that they have trouble finding any common ground. Even if they did find common ground, it would be so small and there would be much suspicion harboured by each...

    Repair Zip on Bare Westsuit

I had a similar problem. My LDS recommended taking it to the local shoemaker rather than replacing the whole zipper. Cost me all of $5 to get it fixed. I would not have thought of taking it to a shoemaker.

That point of view depends on which side of the piss delivery mechanism you are standing. SS does tend to get a bunch of it on their shoes though. And, like this thread, it is a pissing contest.

    The Canadian Seal Slaughter

You might want to have a read of the Canadian Oceans Act, specifically Part 1 for a definition of Territorial Waters, Contiguous zone, and Economic Exclusion Zone. AFAIK from what I have read in the media, the Canadian Coast Guard was not operating in the open seas and they were not taking...

    The Canadian Seal Slaughter

I think that your comparison of boycotting the tea is a bit off. That action was about building a nation and not just about economic activity. I would say that I do not miss the point at all. This is a case where an organization that believes they have a degree of power is misusing it. To...

    The Canadian Seal Slaughter

A note about the author from the story: "Murray Teitel is a Toronto lawyer and journalist." Yep, when they train them Newfoundlanders for the 21st century jobs they will all want to go to Toronto.:D It happened before, it can happen again. ;) Also from the story: "Fourthly, there is the...

Happy to report no PBD here...

More space for the rest of us! To each their own. Personally, when I last stayed at an all inclusive I found the food to be good, but it became a bit boring going to the same place all of the time.

And here is Canada's house of ill repute, er... I mean where the important work of government is done. Ottawa WebCams - Incredible Live Images (you will have to scroll down the page) It looks much better in the summer, especially during the Changing the Guard Ceremony every morning at 10:00
