Can you recommend a bargain Caribbean trip?

:rofl3::rofl3::rofl3::rofl3: Water temp in July may hit the mid 75, but is usually closer to 72F, a small difference from the Caribbean. Totally agree here. Lots to see and lots for you both to do.

    Which crop/placement do you prefer?

I prefer #1 because it leaves more room for the fish from its face to the edge of the photo. #2 crowds the fish.

    Booties - under or over?

On one dive try one of each, then on the next dive reverse it.:D Make a decision based on your experience.

    Debit card use in Bonaire

We checked with out credit card company. Since it is a package, the credit card would have covered the rental CAR insurance. The package included a TRUCK, which is not covered under the credit card insurance. You will receive a coupon for a rental vehicle as part of your printed package you...

What's not acceptable for OW training?

I recall the first time I took training in a full motion flight simulator. We were sent to a training facility in Dallas. The flight simulator was not configured exactly the same as our helicopter. Close enough that the flight model was good for training. Of the group I went with none of us had...

How far in advance do you plan a "Big" trip?

We typically start looking at the next trip upon return from the current trip. I can't say that it is planning in detail at that point. Six to eleven months is what we typically need to ensure that we can sort out schedules and other conflicts. We will book the accommodations well in advance...

    Where to dive geographically?

You have the power to lock the thread, oh wise one. How did wardric find this one? And one just has to wonder if the OP ever came back to see what opinions were offered. Their post count stands at 1.

What's not acceptable for OW training?

I don't see any reason to deny this type of BCD to the student during OW training. If that is what they are going to use, then they should train with it. AFAIK, the standard is to demonstrate removal and replacement of the weighting system and not exclusvely a weight belt. If you want them to...

    PADI peak performance buoyancy course

Yes I took it. No it was not useful. I took it when I was on a trip to Cozumel. Different conditions than what I normally have for diving. Were I to do it over I would have taken it at home. The instuctor was not very good and I did tell him how disappointed I was with the course.

    Redesigning AOW

Yes, well when at least one of the agencies really pushes the continuing education route (read: get more c-cards), then the focus is clear. I know that my LDS has a low margin on running their courses unless they are full consistently. I have not taken what I would call a "certification"...

    Redesigning AOW

Back to you, and as you have asked in other threads; would you please cite a reference for the 70% statistic and analysis that it is a problem of crisis proportion.

If you could ask TSA two questions..

Not quite what I meant. Why is it that I can take an item in my carry on at one airport, but not at another. Strange. I had this happen when I was traveling and had to change terminals at a connection.

If you could ask TSA two questions..

I have to believe that the new door structures leading to the cockpit, introduced post 2001, do as much to reduce the possibility of hijacking as do the checking of passengers. Now, OTOH, if someone wants to destroy an aircraft in flight then the extra screening reduces the probability of that...

    Suunto Vyper nitrox mode

My suggestion is to change the computer into Nitrox mode and leave it as the default. You can set it to 21% and will not have to worry about changing modes again.

    Redesigning AOW

OK, under what regulations or standards is this required? Why is it essential for every dive? I believe that it is a good idea, but just do not understand who sets this as the rule/standard, especially if it is the person running the quarry. In the AOW=BS thread in response to this: You...

If you could ask TSA two questions..

Sorry, but I just had to point this out. Now as to the original point of the thread. Thank you for posting some of the response that you received. An interesting statement that needs context to fully understand what he meant. If the statement stands on its own, it appears to me to be someone...

    Redesigning AOW

I took the NAS 1 course a few years ago. It was taught by two professional archaeologists in the field from Parks Canada. We looked like a bunch of fools in the pool trying to take measurements, make notes, and draw sketches. We also learned a bit about the construction of boats. This was...

If you could ask TSA two questions..

An area of the world that I suspect many, many diver really want to visit sometime during their diving lifetime.
