    Jocassee Dive Ramp. Line question ?

    I followed the line today that goes east from the ski-boat that is near the Bones Family. The line ends at the second dive platform, the same as it always has. However, it does intersect with another line (before it reaches the platform) that goes generally northeast, and this line probably...

    Jocassee Dive Ramp. Line question ?

    Haven't tried it this year, but I believe the line that goes east from the ski boat goes to the second dive platform that is more or less in front of the dive ramp (and a bit to the north of it). The depth at the second platform a few days ago was 32 feet.

    WARNING re Lake Jocassee;

    All the lead shot appears to have been washed off the ramp by recent heavy rains. My dive-buddy and I spent the day at the ramp on August 2, and neither of us saw any lead shot or heard anyone mention it.

    Lake Jocassee update

    To reach the diver's ramp, take the first paved left after you enter the state park (if you go past the store/restrooms and turn-off to the main boat ramp, you've gone to far). Immediately go past a turn-off to a picnic area and proceed about a quarter mile. Bear right to avoid going up a hill...

    Dive Rite Deco Reel Problem

    I purchased a Dive Rite Deco Reel in 2005. When I use it to shoot a lift-bag, the axle and spool comes loose (unscrews itself) from the handle. Any suggestions?

    WARNING re Lake Jocassee;

    There was still one bad spot on the far left ramp Sunday morning (July 26), and my dive-buddy almost went face-first onto the ramp. Apparently this was caused by a soft dive-weight rupturing and spilling its contents. And whoever made the mess didn't bother to clean it up. We tried to get the...

    SC divers

    Anyone can dive from the diver's ramp, it's not just for students and instructors. It costs nothing except for the park entrance fee. There are actually 3 ramps, the 2 on the left (as you face the water) are for divers only, and the one on the right is for boats. However, divers can use the...

    Lake Jocassee update

    For the platform that is to the left of the ramp, the metal frame is still there, but the wood platform pieces have mysteriously disappeared. The 1st platform at the end of the ramp is severely damaged and unusable for anything except a landmark. The depth at the end of the ramp on Sunday...

    Lake Jocassee update

    I made several dives from the diver's ramp on Sunday, June 7. The lake is nearly full, only a foot or so down and still going up. The depth at the end of the ramp was 24 feet, the first platform was 32 feet and the second platform was 42 feet. My maximum depth was 52 feet, and the water temp...

    Lake Jocassee update

    I made several dives from the diver's ramp on Sunday, May 31. The lake was down only about 5 feet from full-pond. The depth at the end of the diver's ramp was 21 feet, the first platform was 28 feet and the second platform was 39 feet. According to my dive computer the surface temperature of...

    Lake jocassee conditions

    This is from my dive log for dives made at Lake Jocassee on May 17, 2008: "The surface temperature of the water was 69 degrees, and the maximum depth at 42 feet was either 60 or 62 degrees, depending on whether I believe my primary dive computer, or the back-up. It felt closer to 60." I live...

    Gulf of Papagayo & Guanacaste

    I dived for a week in July 2008 at Playa del Coco. I used Rich Coast and have no complaints. I didn't make it to Catalina, however, for the dives I did in the Gulf of Papagayo, viz ranged from 20 - 50 feet. I get cold easily, but I was okay in my full-length 4/3 until we hit a thermocline...

    Blue Angel location

    I'm a long-distance hiker, and I'm pretty good at estimating distances when walking. I'd say it is about 1.5 miles from the vicinity of The Square (downtown) to Blue Angel. The sidewalk is pretty nice the entire distance, and it is a pleasant walk by the ocean. When I was there in February 2009...

    Negril diving

    I was basing this opinion (by comparison) with the marine wildlife that I've seen in Bahamas, Mexico, Belize, Florida Keys, Costa Rica and Honduras. Thanks for the kind words concerning the video.

    Negril diving

    You may wish to contact Negril Scuba Centre. They have a dive shop on the premises of Negril Escape Resort, and there is a great reef there for snorkeling and shore-diving. However, I'm not sure if they will let you dive without a Dive Master. I was in Negril for a week of diving in Nov. 2008...

    Close call - flooded reg and DM at Blue Angel, Cozumel

    First, I'd like to say that I think you handled a potentially serious situation in a very cool-headed and efficient manner. Getting a mouthful of seawater from your reg is enough to elevate the pulse of just about any diver (I've been there, too). However, I have found that I learn far more from...

    Trip Report 02-20-09 to 03-05-09 part 1

    So many familiar names and places... All the pics are good, but the turtle photo is awesome. I've just been staring at it for several minutes. Thanks for posting, though it makes me want to go back so badly I almost get a lump in my throat.
