Feb. 3rd - Boat dive to Lobos Rocks

Wish I could join you all, but I"m going to be out of town. I dove the Cypress for the first time this weekend. We did a 3 tank trip to Carmel and it was fantastic. Great boat, great crew and outstanding diving. I'm sure you guys are going to have a great time. By the way, we did live boat...

I do have full manual. Settings range from F2.4 to 8.0 and 1/4000 sec. to 8 minutes. Do you recommend a specific setting or two for specific situations? If so, do you think it's okay to let the camera/strobe decide how much flash to use? The camera and strobe seem to be doing a pretty...

My housing has a flat port. Most of those images were probably closer than my camera's minimum focus distance (.8 meters, according to the net). So I'm going to shoot in macro mode when I get that close. I wish it were easier to switch to macro - I hate having to hold down a button and turn a...

Squid Egg Shag Carpeting! Redondo Canyon! 1/28/07! Limited Engagement, Don't miss it!

Wow - sounds awesome. Any photos for those of us a little too far away from Redondo to see for ourselves?

This makes a lot of sense. It looks like the minimum non-macro focus distance for my camera is .8 meters, which is a lot longer than I would have thought it would be. It sounds like I need to flip to macro mode or back away from the fishes. Please fire away if you have any other tips!

Hmm... not sure how to cut and paste this info, so I'll type it in. Interesting - it looks like pictures 1-4 all have the exact same info: Mode: Program Aperture: F2.4 Shutter: 1/30.0 sec Exposure compensation: 0.0 ISO: 50 Focal length: 34mm Macro: Off There's a bunch of other...

    Blurry Parts in Photos

I'm just getting started with underwater photography and am a little puzzled by a problem I've been having. Some (maybe 5%) of my images will be distorted in one or more of the corners or sides of the image. I don't think it's a depth of field/focus related, as the blurry part of the image is...

A Concern for all Bonaire Lovers

Just planning to let them know that at least one visitor to the island thinks ATVs in the park is a bad idea (and don't even get me started about jetskis). I don't mean to imply that all people on cruise ships are dreaded pod people. I'm sure there are plenty of good folks who enjoy cruises...

A Concern for all Bonaire Lovers

I'm heading back to Bonaire next Friday and am a little concerned about what I'm going to find after reading this. Please tell me my favorite place in the Caribbean hasn't been overrun by jetskis and pod people! I'm putting my letter together now...

    Monterey This Weekend (1/26)

Anyone interested in getting a late afternoon and/or early night dive in this Friday (1/26)? Anyone have any other diving planned this weekend? I've received a free weekend pass from the wife and am looking to dive as much as possible. --Scott

    Golf Ball Divers

1 ball every 40 seconds for 24 hours a day 7 days a week to get 15k balls. Or, with more reasonable work hours, you'd need to find a ball every 16.8 seconds for 10 straight hours 7 days in a row. I'm notoriously horrible at math, but I think those numbers are right. Is it just me, or do these...

    fiji dive boat tipping

I'll be interested to hear some other answers to this, as I'm not sure I ever figured it out during my 3 weeks in Fiji. My thinking is no, don't tip the dive people. The first place we stayed, I contributed to the Christmas fund for the staff and tipped the dive guys seperately. They seemed a...

Where to stay on Taveuni, female traveling alone

Hi ikkes, I just got back from a honeymoon on Matagi (right next door to Taveuni) and spent a little bit of time hiking on Taveuni. I'm going to post a full trip report at some point, but thought I'd chime in here since you haven't gotten much response. Fiji in general and the Taveuni area in...

    Salvo 21W 9ah remote head

I have the 21w 9a with remote head and really like it, though it's my first cannister light so I don't have anything to compare it to. I like having the ballast in the can. I handle the head all the time, so I apprecaite it being smaller. I seldom notice the cannister at all once I've got...

    Fiji or Cook Islands

I also just got back from Fiji and loved it. We spent a week at Matangi (as well as a week in Savusavu and 5 nights on the Tui Tai) and dove almost every day. I have never been to the cook islands, but the diving around Matagi compared favorably to anyplace I've been in the Carribean or...

    Nose Bleeds??

For me, it's not an equalizing issue. My ears clear easily both coming up and going down - I seldom even have to pinch and blow. I just get nosebleeds at random, which sometimes happens to be when I'm under water.

Warning for Monterey Divers (especially women): Beware of Fred

The 30th of what? I'm back from my honeymoon and am looking to go diving at the earliest opportunity (except this coming weekend).

    Nose Bleeds??

My nose easily bleeds (when diving or otherwise), so I've had more than a few underwater nosebleeds. No harm in it as far as I can tell - just flush the blood out periodically until the bleeding stops. I have to say, I did not realize the green viscous liquid filling my mask was blood the...
