    Seaskin trilam drysuit purchase simulation

Sorry for the kind of off-topic slip. I have been looking at Seaskin for a while, but they don't seem to have a breathable material. I am looking for a very light suit to use in warm waters mainly for redundant buoyancy, and comfort in longer dives. Something similar to the Waterproof EX2, which...

Paralyzing anxiety at first ... then love it

Once in the water, breathe deeply, there is nothing more reassuring than the feeling that you can have as much air as you want, whenever you want. Learn how to take off your mask and put it back clearing it. Practice in the pool till you get tired of it. The feeling of being able to 'control'...

Buying mid - high end regulator vs replacing it every few years

Actually, another good reason to consider the Mares setup is that you can buy the Loop octopus, which is non-directional with the hose coming straight in from below. It is 109.95 on LeisurePro again.

Buying mid - high end regulator vs replacing it every few years

Not limiting it at all, in fact I like the 15x quite a lot, and I even bought one for my wife... I was just meaning that the Mares will be fine for most diving, until maybe he decides to get into ice diving, when I would recommend a Poseidon...

Buying mid - high end regulator vs replacing it every few years

The Mares Rover 15x is on sale on LeisurePro for $209.95. For 15-20 dives a year in warm water down to 90ft max it would make a great first regulator, no need to go more expensive in my opinion, at least for now.

Is it time to sink the CESA?

My issue with CESA is different (apart from the fact that I hated teaching it...). CESA reinforces the natural instinct to jump to surface when something is wrong, and this may become dangerous when people move to more advanced diving. I sure know of few deaths with rebreathers, where in few...

    Exciting Giant Sea Bass news!

I have a friend, 80 yo, who studied lions all his life and lives in a very remote part of Zambia. He would never tell anybody the exact location of the lions, to avoid helping poachers and trophy hunters. I think we should be careful and do the same, when we talk about some fishes.

Road Rash with Hydrocolloid Dressing: To Dive or Not to Dive

Not at all. Tegaderm is a simple, thin, waterproof film while any hydrocolloid dressing includes an absorbent layer. Tegaderm does not work well on wounds producing any kind of exudate, that would collect under the dressing. Hydrocolloid dressings absorb secretions, and are indicated for...

S80 12 lt tank + 7 lt stage bottle for dives alone or with friends

You spotted it right, I was born in Italy, but I left more than 30 years ago. Still love the country, the people, the food and the diving there. I haven't been back for more than two years, but hopefully 2021 will bring a chance. Diving in the Caribbean turned me I to a softie though, and i am...

S80 12 lt tank + 7 lt stage bottle for dives alone or with friends

If it's a tank that you are going to use a lot, then the 'luxury' of buying a new one may be well justified. At the very least you will not have to worry about servicing it for 4 years (but when you buy the tank check the date it was manufactured. You don't want a tank that has been sitting in...

S80 12 lt tank + 7 lt stage bottle for dives alone or with friends

Exactly. Aluminium is a softer material that can be more easily damaged, but is less prone to corrosion. The fact that Aluminum tanks are cheaper and easier to maintain is the reason for their diffusion, especially around salt water.

S80 12 lt tank + 7 lt stage bottle for dives alone or with friends

That's wrong. In fact Aluminium tanks need thicker walls than steel tanks, and end up weighting more.

How to Showcase Underwater Photos - why do people watermark pictures?

The images published on the web are already low resolution. Anybody willing to use them for commercial purposes would need the original high definition file. Yes, somebody may copy the low definition image and put it on a small website: are you going to take them to court for that? A cease and...

    Andrea Doria Discussion

Personally, i would recommend to look into rebreathers, if you are planning to do that kind of dives. The fact that you are not into OC technical diving yet may also be an advantage when learning to dive with a rebreather, as some OC habits would need to be changed and they are more difficult to...

How long before phone-based uw cases eat the low end computers?

Yes. What i don't know is why I would carry something turned off on a dive with me, even just for some functions like email. I do know that every extra function in a piece of software is a new chance of crash and failure. It depends on the dives you plan, i suppose. It certainly would not work...
