    How do you communicate pressure?

Air Force pilots use something like that for fuel remaining, vertical fingers are 1-5 and if they are horizontal the digits are 6-10. The only real issue I can see with that and diving is orientation may not always be as clear as in a plane, nice system though. In my OW class we either did it...

    Ebay question

It might be somebody putting in a bid, say $20, then seeing it was not enough then putting in even more. I will often not put the max amount I want to bid right away. In terms of automated computers system, those usually bid in the last 5-10 seconds of the auction to "snipe" the auction and not...

Best signalling equipment from the searchers point of view

I know on 121.5 it could take a few hours for a satellite to come overheard, with land searches I want to say it took more then 2 hits before dispatching a team. They do try and contact the owner assuming proper registration, that cuts back on the activation of SAR teams by a quiet a bit. I...

Best signalling equipment from the searchers point of view

If I got some sort of rescue device like that I would certainly get a PLB /w GPS, I have been close a few times to get one for SCUBA and hiking. The one thing I can see as an advantage of the SPOT system is first off is the initial investment is a lot less. The unit also lets you send a...

Best signalling equipment from the searchers point of view

The thingk to remember with 121.5 freq EPIRBs as well as the Air Force is going to stop monitoring the frequency on satellites so if you are using a beacon that ONLY transmits on 121.5 only somebody relatively close will be able to pick up a signal. No clue how far it travels on the ocean but I...

    The BIG question

Google is awesome for those sorts of things, just google "8 stones to pounds" and it spits out: 8 stones = 112 pounds

what type of precautions are necesary for the scuba divers

What wetsuit is really dependent on where you are going to be diving. There is everything from a dive skin (basically just protection) for the Caribbean to a drysuit with thermal clothing below for up north. For the safety precautions a good first place to look is at a certifying agencies...

    Naui Fees Then and Now

The membership dues is about on target with inflation. Out of curiosity I took a look and used Tom's Inflation Calculator which takes the yearly average inflation rates to convert money, $75 becomes $96.92 today. The insurance is a bit lower but that I would imagine is related to the rising...

    Dear Olympus

I was actually pleasantly surprised when my new olympus camera came with a XD --> microSD adapter so you can use a microSD in the carmera. Not the same as another slot but close enough for me. Very handy now that my laptop, pda with internet, and camera take the same card. I can take a few...

    Richmond, VA area dive shop

Looks like you are close to half way between DC and Richmond. Not sure about Richmond if you interested in heading up to NoVA checkout seaventures in Fairfax or American Water Sports in Falls Church. I use seaventures as my LDS and the owner is a good guy. I don't know how many free diving fins...

He died April of '07: CDNN :: Student Dies During University of Alabama Scuba Diving Course The father just filed a wrongful death suit: Suit Filed in Scuba Death of UA Student|ABC 33/40 News I don't think there was any death recently. Apparently while doing an emergency ascent he held his...

    Knighthawk, squeezing stomach on surface

It sounds like you might be tightening the shoulder straps too much OR when you get on the surface the buoyancy of it lifts the vest up. When you are on the surface do you get extra space between your shoulders and the strap or does it still fit snugly resting on your shoulders.

    Rawlings: Hump Day July 30

Too bad I have some stuff to take care of tomorrow, I would so be there if it was Thursday. I am newly certified and trying to find some good dive buddies in the northern VA area.

    Underwater Laser Pointer

I have never used a laser under water but I would imagine most places have enough "stuff" suspended in the water to make any sort of laser visible - similar to chalk dust with a regular laser. I would imagine the laser would do the same type harm as a laser would to a human eye, maybe a reduced...

    2 flies on the ceiling...PANIC!!!!!!!

Thanks for the post, new diver here and reading through a lot of these threads really makes me think a lot more about what I would do in these situations - or at least what I would do if I stayed cool and collected which I hope would be the case.

    Another new diver from Virginia

That is really good to hear, it is hard to sort through all of the stories but overall it seems like Aeris makes a good product. If my LDS was an Aeris dealer I would end up getting it from him, even if it was a bit more, but I am at least able to get it from another LDS that is only 20 miles...

    Between Oceanic and Suunto

I am new to diving but have been looking at a picking up a computer as well. I think here in a few days I will end up picking up a Aeris T-3, essentially the same as a VT3. A good place to start might be to consider if you want to go with a console or wireless, there are arguments for both but...

    Another new diver from Virginia

I just finished my OW up 2 weeks ago at Rawlings and found this board through google so decided to join up. I have been watching for a few days and am amazed at how busy it is -- great community you guys have going on! Now time to keep reading over reviews and looking up some information, I...
