    Looking for a dive computer...

The disclaimer that Buff is talking about (backup gauges) is something that computer manufacturers have to place in their manuals for liability reasons. I have logged some 300 hours on computers without failure. They are very reliable. The manufacturers that I have dealt with recommend...

    Aeris computers

The type of computer you decide to buy should be commensuate of the type of diving you do. Pelagic Pressure Systems sell computers through different manufacturers, such as Oceanic, USD, Sherwood, and so forth. They are all easy to use, track the essentials, are relatively inexpensive, and are...

    Nitrox is it worth it????

The requirement of dives under the PADI system is because they consider it a diving specialty, meaning that it is one of five that can count toward the Master Diver status. If there are no dives, they consider it a non-diving spec, not counted toward that rating. At least that's my...

    Need a neck seal.

Try this link. I don't know where you are located, but these guys do some of the best repairs on drysuits. If they can't help you, they may be able to refer you to someone who can. Cheers, stay dry :)

    Diving after flying

Though one can dive right after stepping off the plane, it's not a recommendation per DAN's research. One should take time after a long flight to rehydrate and rest and get settled in a new location. Jumping in the water right after stepping off the plane will increase one's risk of DCS due to...

    becoming a diving master?

The thought of becoming a Dive Master/Con or Instructor for a career change is a wonderful prospect. I do not know how many dives you have or how many diving situations you have gone diving in, however I strongly recommend getting as much experience in a variety of situations prior to and...

    'O' Ring retractor

You can try Peter Bilt. They make tools for scuba regulator repair/maintainence. You can also try your local dentist, see if they wish to get rid of any picks.

    Flags

I use an inflatable float with flag (from Innovative Scuba and look under flags)....easy storage after diving. It is attatched to a 150 foot reel. Works great, highly visible. However, beware the jet skiier!

    Dive Alerts, safety sausages, etc

I dive mainly in fresh water lakes and quarries, and all I carry with me is a Storm whistle. However, in the ocean, say the carribean, I will dive with the DAN kit: sausage, chem stick, and mirror. I know people who have the dive alert: one tried using it in the air pocket in a ship wreck...

    gear storage

I tend to store my stuff in my closet in rubbermaid-like tubs. I hang the wetsuit and keep the drysuit in its own bag. The regs stay coiled in the tubs along with bc's, masks, torches, reels, and so forth. I have multiple tubs to aid in organiztion and transportation to and from dive sites...

    What suit/combination for 65 degree H2O?

Uncomfortable warm in wetsuit?!?!?! Wow! You must be a living furnance; I'm generally cool to cold in a wetsuit, even in the carribean. I plan on taking my full wetsuit (7mm jumper and 5mm hooded vest) this time around. Maybe I'll be warm.... Buff, where are you located in MN? I'm in the...

    Diving and lightning

A few years back I was involved in helping with a scuba class, a night dive. As we were exiting the water, I heard others around us saying that a couple of bolts of lightning had struck the far side of the lake and wondered if we felt anything. It was too far away for us to notice, but the...

    Aeris 500AI?

Can we say depends? The thing to ask yourself is what kind of diving are you going to be doing? When looking for a computer I ask myself that question: what type of diving am I going to be doing with it. Then I start looking at models. No, not the buxom blonds and buff studs in the scuba ads...

    Just needs some opinions..kids diving

Can kids dive? Sure they can; the technical aspects of diving can essentially be taught to anyone. In the medical field, the paradigm has shifted to teaching the patient to take care of themselves by teaching them the technical aspects of care of their colostomy or I&O catheterization, and so...

    What suit/combination for 65 degree H2O?

First off, I am jealous!! Second, let us know how the temps are. I'm looking at either running a trip there or having someone in my group of dive buds do it. It would be good to know thermal protection needs. Third, 57 degrees is definitely borderline drysuit for me. I dive dry 90% of...

Another reason NOT to use the integrated air source/bc inflator

I dive with multiple configs for different conditions. I dive with an airsouce (SP Air2) mainly in the pool with students to show them different equipment that is available but also in the carib where I don't want extra hoses hanging (more streamlined). I dive in the Lake that was presented on...

    Diver in Distress

Question: did you call 911? If so, you did do something. Even if you are not trained to do a rescue, you can do something that is invaluable: get to a high place that is in view of the subject and stay there watching. This is called "spotting," an invaluable person in a rescue situation...

    the NEW Scubapro X-Wing BC

The SP X-Tek is the old Dive Rite Trans-Pac. SP bought out the company manufacturing the Trans-Pac for Dive-Rite. I think that a BCD that can grow with your needs is a great invention. Why mediocre? The Trans-Pac has been around for a number of years and many divers swear by it's design...

    Primary Light suggestions

Grip (Left handed or right...? j/k) It is a matter of personal preference. Personally, a pistol grip is nice; a canister light tends to have the option of attatching to your hand or arm. Try a few and see what you like. I'm sure the LDS won't mind.....of course, that's an assumption. :)
