Amanda's back (if anyone remembers me !)

I think I remember you, Amanda. Welcome back! Wasn't this your avatar?

    BP/W phenomenon

Someone getting defensive on a message board? Does that happen? ;) But for me, I went BP/W to get rid of all the extra padding and to distribute 8 lbs of weight on my back, which was "floaty." Made a big difference with working my weight belt, too. Am I a tech diver? Nope. I don't care...

    I'm too fat!

That's kinda weird...I know that it's unusual for OW students to use BP/W, but not unheard of. The backplate wouldn't eliminate the use of a weight belt (I use one myself), so adjusting for correct weighting shouldn't be an issue. Whatever they do for your class, just make sure you're...

    I'm too fat!

It's actually a cummerbund (the waist strap/belt part of many BCDs) extension, which means they would make the belt longer to fit your waist. I've never seen one used, but have heard of them. Here's the backplate pitch....Backplate and wing is a very customizable system; do some research on...

    Cressi-sub or Mares

Used both, but right now use the Matrix (X-vision frame cracked; not sure what from, but not during a dive). Both are good; go with whichever fits your face the best.

Portland Brownstone Quarries - Calling all brownstoned divers!!

Four hours and counting.... and, of course, the 11th hour concerns always pop up: http://www.middletownpress.com/site/news.cfm?newsid=15007366&BRD=1645&PAG=461&dept_id=10856&rfi=8

Is New England the toughest place to SCUBA for recreational divers?

I would venture to say that anyplace with a 7mm/drysuit requirement may breed a pretty dedicated kind of diver.

    No diving for 30 days?

I'd heed my doctor. The diving will always be there. Make sure you are, too.

    Old Dive Manuals?

Well, if it's for sentimental sake, I would say to just try to remember and log what you can on some log sheets (plenty of Excel or Word formats on scubaboard). Or, if you're still in contact with your old dive buddies, get them to send a copy to you.

    Triple l "Maximus" bp/w

Don't mean to be critical or anything, but this caught my attention in the description of the wing: Lift Capacity 40 lbs – 90 lbs For single tank only Now, someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but 1)why is the lift capacity given as a range (I thought most wings/bc's have a specific...

taking open water course without partner

Go ahead and sign up. I can almost guarantee you that the majority of people who took their OW were by themselves. You'll just get paired up for the water stuff. No disadvantages. You may make some new friends/future dive buddies as well.

    Advance Open Water Certification

I agree with you, and coincidentally, one of my LDS's does just this (all the time, I'm not sure; but I was offered it in the spring). I think it's an addition $50 above AOW class alone, but sounds like a good deal.

Good idea, but who's willing to sacrifice their vehicle(s)? Actually, I might be willing; mine's kinda beat up (kidding, but you get my point)
