Anyone still want to talk Baseball?

Well, as a baseball fan, good luck to both the White Sox and the Astros (Cards had their chance last year). If those two teams make it to the WS, that's definitely history in the making. As a Red Sox fan, hey, we won last year (can the Yankees say they won it all in the 21st century? Nope!)...

    Angels in the Outfield

Sure, replays did say that the catcher caught the ball, but the umpire also was unclear in his hand signals for 'out' and 'strike 3' were. His hand signal said 'out' as far as almost everyone was concerned. Also mentioned was that when a ball is in the dirt, the ump usually calls 'no catch'...

Thanks for the welcome, guys! All this talk about the Phillipines now has me hungry for fried lumpia! It's funny; my parents (and various aunts and uncles) visited home last October, and were amazed how much things had changed in 30 years (no real surprise, I guess). but also how some things...

    Backplate question from new diver!

I have a Hammerhead plate/STA, and I like them very much. However, generally speaking, a plate is a plate. Hammerhead does offer very good pricing on plate/sta packages. Their standard harness (one piece), is just like any other standard harness, at least 2 years ago. BTW, Hammerhead is very...

How strong a swimmer do you need to be to dive

Good for you! From personal experience, swimming regularly will not only make diving a whole lot easier, but your body will be glad you're doing it. BTW, what swimming strokes are you doing? Swimming crawl stroke is certainly an excellent fitness stroke, but since I also use frog kick while...

you guys momentarily hold your breath while you press the shutter?

Here's a quick 'military style' checklist for shooting; it can applied to cameras as well (I think): H -- Holding (rifle should be held in the most comfortable position and firmly, but not in a death grip) A -- Aiming (Take a moment to properly aim your shot) B -- Breathing control (as you...

I'll throw in my $0.02 cents here, as a Filipino-American: Personally, I don't mind the switch from English to Tagalog (it's actually very much like family gatherings here in the states), even though I was raised with the English language and only a little Tagalog (I actually knew more Tagalog...

    back inflation or other style

I would recommend visiting different scuba shops and see if you can try out different pieces of equipment, what they're satisfaction policies are, etc. And since you are located in Florida, I will go out on a limb and guess that they're could be at least a handful of stores in your (relative)...

    West Palm Dive Ops

I also dove with Pura Vida, and they were a good company. I can't remember all the site names we hit, but turtles were definitely in great abundance (March 2004), as were good coral and barracuda.

    What is a troll?

I would classify him more of a troublemaker than a troll. He causes minimal disruption, not maximum ;)

    What is a troll?

Geez, don't listen to this guy! From the Urban Dictionary: Troll: One who posts a deliberately provocative message to a newsgroup or message board with the intention of causing maximum disruption and argument

NW CT diving spots for a newbie

I can't remember which area we were at, but I think it was off of Niles Road. According to my logbook, we dove on July 31 last year, no passes. It was the entrance where you pass the porto potties on the right, then the public beach on your right, then onto the parking lot. On the left side of...

    A couple of fins questions

    1. Booties are worn with open heel fins. The other kind are called full foot fins. 2. I don't use splits, but many people seem to like Apollo Bio-Fins.

How do you make a loop with bungee?

I use a Zeppelin Bend. Strong, simple (no tools required) and can tie it on the spot. BTW, melting the ends of cut bungee (and cave line) with a lighter will keep it from fraying.
