What I want in a gear bag, but can't find.

Thanks for the ideas. I shall continue my quest for the ideal divebag or bags. Oh, by the way, went diving south of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia today, and we saw 7 or 8 silver tipped reef sharks (I think that's what they called them). Real cool. Closest one passed within 2 meters of me. Awesome.

Santa is coming to Scuba Board (well we’re doing an upgrade but it’s almost as good)!

Wow, can't wait to see the new Scuba Board. Will it have something other than birds on the main page? Something scuba-like? It's Dec. 17th, 5:30pm here in Jeddah, KSA, and it's my birthday. 36. A real bummer this year, as my wife and two children are on mandatory evacuation, due to the...

What I want in a gear bag, but can't find.

A few months ago on a dive boat in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, I saw one diver with a cool gear bag. Essentially it's a normal soft nylon-type outer shell, and inside space for two milk crate-like containers. Didn't get the brand name. Can clean off the dive gear, leave in the crates and put back...

    SubDuck...Mini HammerHead.....which one??

I use a sub duck here in Jeddah. I find it works above water and below just fine for my liking. If I were sooooooo far from the dive boat then there's the nifty safety sausage that connects to the dump valve on the lower left rear. I can inflate it with my LP inflator hose and don't have to...

    What's your hidden talent?

I have long nurtured the ability of being able to call my friends just as they're a) headed out the door, b) getting ready for dinner, or c) a and b. It goes way back to my 2nd oldest brother, who would always come by the house with his wife and kids just as we would sit down to eat. Also...

I almost pulled a "cobaltbabe" last night...

In Vermont, I remember coming upon a deer that someone had hit by accident. The state trooper had to put it out of its misery. Here in Saudi, there's camel crossings. Some stretches of highway are quite dark at night and it's not uncommon for one to get turned into 1/2 ton road kill. If you...

HP vs. LP / High Pressure versus Low Pressure steel tanks

I love using Poseidon HP tanks. Not that I've ever had an o-ring blow on any LP tanks, but there is definitely no way that will happen here. Two weeks ago I was using Poseidon for the map making part of the DM course. While still staying within limits, I got 94 minutes out of it, with a good...

What's you fav after dive food ???

When going diving, I bring 2 or 3 of those juice drinks in the foil pouches, with the straw that's attached to it, and that you poke through to drink (for that day's dives). It maintains a very good seal around the straw, and no sea water gets in. While down under, I stop and drink one...

    Jeddah, KSA dive maps

Wondering if anyone in Jeddah has dive maps of any of the "beach resorts" north of Jeddah, such as Sheraton, Intercon, Al Nakheel...etc..

How do I improve my air consumption?

I am 6' and weigh 210 lbs. I am not, by any stretch, a superjock. I try to exercise when I can. I regulary, however, come up with more air than friends of mine who are much more "fit" than me. I get more out of a LP 80 than others can get out of a medium pressure tank. I need no weights...

    Howdy from Saudi

Hi, I've been teaching EFL in Saudi for nine years, and diving since '99. Currently working on DM course. Any Vermonters here in Jeddah, or Saudi-at-large? Any S.I.T./Marlboro College alumni in the magic kingdom? Drop a line. Por ahora me despido, David

Considering going for my Technical Master Fire Diver Certification

Today's repeat of C.S.I. had a dead scuba diver atop a tree in a burnt out forest. One of the investigators opined that he had been picked up by one of these "bambi" buckets, and died after being dropped, but in reality he was killed by his business partner, who dumped his body at the base of a...

    Diving in Saudi Arabia

I have been diving in Saudi since 1999, and in Jeddah since 2001. There are several beach "resorts" that offer fair-pretty good diving. Al Bilad Beach is very basic in terms of facilities, but is worth it. The diving there is one of the best places north of Jeddah. Al Nakheel is decent, with...

    pre-dive light setup/arrangement

I use either an SL4 or SL6 by Underwater Kinetics as my primary torch for nighttime. I clip it to the lower part of my BC with a locking retractable lanyard, a Princeton Tec "Gadget Gear." This way, it is close at hand for entry, but I don't have to worry about it flailing around if it were...

    Gear Bag

Hi, I teach English in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Currently I am taking the PADI Divemaster course. Last weekend I saw one of the other divers on the boat with a really practical gear bag, especially for boat diving. It was basically a nylon (or other material) outer shell, with the interior...
