    Mukilteo T-Dock question

I don't know where it goes, exactly- I just know the line is used for OW classes- they line the students up on the rope and have them do their basic skills such as mask removal, etc. Coming back up the hill from deeper water during a class, you can usually hear and see the churning, murky water...

    Divers Going On Strike !

Yep. 2x(hourly rate) x1000= annual pay, basically, so a diver making 35$ an hour would pull in about 70k before taxes. Not enough money for me to do that work, anyway. I can come pretty close to that on land, and dive for pleasure pretty much whenever I want.

    Seeking Advice: Possible Barotrauma

While I doubt there's any correlation between your dives and your tinnitis, based on the length of time between the symptoms and the dives, I'm not a doctor. Here's some of the best advice you'll ever get about diving medicine: Call DAN. It's free, even for non members. 1-919-648-2948...

    Geoduck diver injured

Now THAT'S What I'm talking about! I'd upgrade to the mouted .30 cal belt fed machine gun, however. Some boaters are totally out of control and need to be taught some manners.

    Advice

Hmm. So, what's the lift bag for? Redundant buoyancy? Reference for mid-water ascents? And yeah, I carry two lights, knife +shears, etc. And I thought the slung 40cf pony would be better that an H valve, Scubydoo. Maybe I'm wrong, I dunno, but I really don't mind having it there- I...

    Feeling "comfortable in the water"

I know a DM who sure isn't comfortable in the water. And I've dived with people on their first dive after OW class who were very comfortable there. I think it's a little off-putting to judge someone for using that phrase. Sure, if someone's twitchy as all get-out and won't look you in the eye...

    Question for Pacific Northwest Divers

I didn't mind diving wet at all, but the surface interval, combined with changing out of the damn wetsuit convinced me to invest in a drysuit. Like the vast majority of PNW divers I've talked to about it, I never bothered taking a class in diving dry, I just went out with a buddy who showed me...

    Advice

OK, so I've been thinking a lot about doing the solo thing. I'm looking for pointers on gear, mostly. The most obvious thing seems to be a redundant air supply in the event of a burst disk/ first stage failure. I've been diving with a 40 cf pony for a bit, and Just started carrying it in the...

    Buddy Check

Oh, I agree. Way better to catch them standing up in hip deep water than at 100 fsw. I've caught a few things, and so have my buddies. But, I guess what I'm saying, is that we did it with a cursory once-over, not a formal "BWRAF" thingie.

    Buddy Check

Wow- way to exhume an old thread! One note- I haven't done a buddy check with anyone since I finished my OW 6 months ago. Almost 70 dives since then, and not one person, including several DM's an instructor, and an assistant instructor, that I've dived with, does the BWRAF check. We all do...

    Can't edit dive info

Dang....well, he charged me 10$ per dive for the update, but at least I seem cool on the internet now! It was worth it, I think.....wasn't it?:(

So, uh....if I were to mention that I just logged my 63rd dive, it might get updated for me, magically?:D

"Worst Diver I have ever Seen!"

Well.....PHD's don't impress me much. Both of my parents have them, and they're both very intelligent people, but...Mom's is in English, Dad's is in Classics (Greek+Latin) and niether of them could assemble a dart board if their lives depended on it. ;)

Please help me with my buoyancy :)

As someone who struggled with this at first, I'll just add a couple things. Lotsa good advice so far, but: 1- It gets much easier the more you dive. You'll figure it out by trying different things. Dive a lot, weekly, or more often if you can. 2- I dove overweighted at first, and still...

I need help narrowing down the fin search

Well, I've bought.....uh.....well....several pairs of fins in the 6 months since I got certified, and my favorites are the XT biofins- stiffer than the regular ones, not as stiff as twin jets...but I like them a lot more than the regular bio fins.

    Rigging a pony bottle

Well....small bubbles coming off a first stage can be a sign that an O ring is thinking about blowing out. If your pony is slung, not only can you see it, you have ready access to the valve, in the event you forgot to turn it on. I'm still gonna be tank mounting mine for now, though. I'll...

    Rigging a pony bottle

I just bought a set of these: http://www.reefscuba.com/bracket.htm#THE%20PONY%20TAMER They're great, work really well for switching your pony between tanks. If you want to mount directly to your tank instead of using a sling set up, that is.
