Never Ever Hold Your Breath But......

Although holding your breath is a BIG no no, Pausing is an alternative too put uneeded air in your drysuit or bc. As stated above, pausing your breathing is a great way too adjust your depth in the water column. Your tidal volume of lungs will have the same bouyancy of about 7-10 lbs. of...

    Anyone use a Weezle?

I've never had a problem with my DUI liteloft extreme. During deco stops or any other times. My wife has a problem staying warm but when I put her in a weezle extreme she did not complain about being cold, she actually said she was quite warm. As far as the bouyancy issue we were able too shed a...

    LP vs HP

I'm not sure if anyone else has made mention too the fact that it is easier too fill lp tanks with mixed gases. I got a great deal on a hp tank, but other than that all my tanks are lp. Besides that, most LDS charge more for hp fills. Yes the sizes are sometimes more suitable for some, but...

    New or Used BCD?

I'm a back inflate guy, but while working with students on the doff and don of a bc at the surface it was worth it too me too look into a vest style bc. I picked up an Aeris Atmos xt (vest style/weight integrated bc) darn near new and in great shape for $75.00. Oh and by the way, it came with an...

What's causing these bubbles in my mask?

I also have a stache that I won't get rid of, but, by trimming the small amount just below my nose(maybe an 1/8" or so) I find I don't have any problems. Just a thought. A purge valve is just another thing too go wrong.IMO Joe

What's causing these bubbles in my mask?

Why are you using a brush? Just use your finger and some standard paste toothpaste, put it on, scrub it around, let it setup and then after awhile scrub it again. This should work and will last. After that just use the baby shampoo. Good luck, Joe

    Diving is expensive

I'm not even gonna touch on that. Maybe after another 100-200 dives you may think differently. Joe

    Diving is expensive

Excactly!!!! You should at least learn the basics of decompression diving, heaven forbid anything should happen! Not exactly sure what your experience is, and not "agency bashing", but considering PADI has only recently come on board with the whole mixed gas thing. In that EAN was taboo up until...

    Hello From Nebraska

Hello Fatboy, So it took you this long too feel comfortable enough too make a post?:rofl3: Well, glad too see you did! Hopefully you'll enjoy the forums and continue too chime in once or twice every 6 months:rofl3: Just kidding, hope too see you more regularly. Joe

    Hello from a newbee

It may sound cliche', but you will find that many here will be in the same boat, rent gear or borrow gear from others until you find what works for you. When I started, I didn't heed the warnings of " if you buy, after the first year you will probably not be using the original gear purchased". i...

    New guy

Check the yellow pages under scuba, then go and talk with the instructors. Find the one that seems too meet your needs. All agencies are basically the same too a certian degree. I personally have certs. from PADI,IANTD, and SDI/TDI, they all have certian aspects of efficiancy. Just remember that...

Does this sounds right? [Nitrox course]

Not sure if the course covered this, but, you are the only one in charge of your safety, or should be. Just remember, ALWAYS analyze your own gas, NEVER take anyones word of the mix/mod, and by doing this, the life you may save is YOUR OWN!!! Diving EAN is an added risk, (not that I'm apposed...

Bouyancy issue - what happened to me?

I also believe a drysuit my be a little easier for trimming, NOT for bouyancy. That is if you can keep your feet down, (I hate ankle weights!!!! Can you say crutch.) I guess I should also say that back inflate/wing style BC's, not vest type also help with the proper positioning of a diver. I...

2007 Remembered - Your Best Dive

Nothing tropical here, but I was cetified as a DM and got my extended range cert. On our final dive at 200' we ran across an old abandoned gill net that I've only seen videos of. What a sight!!! and the life, awesome. Full on deco diving is a serious commitment, but wouldn't exchange it for...

What's causing these bubbles in my mask?

I know the LDS's won't like me, but, save your money on the commercial defog. All I use is, baby shampoo!!! It works as well if not better than both the products that you named. Also, it should not irritate your eyes, hence "no more tears" I find the geeric stuff works just as well as j&j's and...

Bouyancy issue - what happened to me?

As stated above, the problem was probably lung pump. When I work at the Oregon Coast Aquarium I find the becoming an issue in the exhibits, I have too go to my place of zen, and remember too breath calmly. If you are taking larger breaths than you are exhaling you become positive. Remember that...

Is it OK if I dive by my self?

OK, maybe not "REQUIRED", but it would seem pretty unlikely for an instructor, if he/she had two DM's too ask them both too set the dive float when one of them could help students with gear. I know of a few that could use the help, but at the DM status they should be able too handle setting the...

Is it OK if I dive by my self?

Oh yeah, As far as the statement made about diving solo around newly certified divers or students, and being a role model too them, make sure you have the proper equipment/training and let them know why you carry it/have it and for what reasons. Also, let them know you have many dives and the...

Is it OK if I dive by my self?

As the Doc and others have stated, there are certian situations that require solo diving. The fact that you have too ask the question brings a level of lack of knowledge. Not saying that you are not a descent diver but maybe you should do some research on the logistics of solo diving. Even...
