Another Old Scubapro Tank ID Question

I just picked up those 76cf from Tip. Thanks, Tip. I need to get them Hydro'd and into the water for a buoyancy check. Mahjong posted the buoyancy as -5.5/-0.13 w/o valve. Indian Valley approximates the valve to weigh 1.5#, so -7.0/-1.6; is that about right? Seems heavier than my Faber...

    J Valves

I just noticed the exposed threads on the second pics. Thanks for pointing that out.

    J Valves

Mine came with the 2 inch webbing and "quick release" snaps on the shoulder and stainless buckle. The webbing was super stiff and I took it all off thinking about replacing them with fresh webbing but I didn't know where I put my snap pliers to duplicate the webbing. I still have them coiled...

    J Valves

I'm almost positive they're 72. They look a lot like mine, but older. I'm passing on those three. I have two 72cf, also Norris with Sherwood J, and four 76cf made by Faber/ScubaPro. I'm trying to switch out my AL80 to the steel 72 and 76. I learned on those 72 and felt the most comfortable...

    J Valves

Next time I'm in Catalina, I'll have go to the museum. The tanks are all HJ marked (Norris?), 2250 with + rating. Hydro birthdate of the two of the three: 4^60 and 4^67, both plus rated. Third one may be a '64. I didn't get pics of the third one.

    J Valves

I just saw these tanks on CL in SF Bay Area. I asked the Seller about the valves and asked him to send pics. I've seen the Sportsway, but never the Voit or US Diver before. Kind of cool.

Sportsways SPG - still usable? serviceable?

Great video! I cleaned up the spool with some white vinegar and gave it a scrub with a toothbrush. I haven't replaced the o-rings, yet, but I think I'll try using it on a pool test dive and check for leakage. There's some oxidation on the head of the dial, seen in the pics. It's not causing...

    Thoughts on this pony bottle

For future reference: those are military, probably surplus, egress tanks. 3cf, 3000psi. It still needs an inspection. I had one, SRU-40B/P HABD. Mine was an older model. It didn't come with a refill adapter, which you need. 2nd stage was a Left hand Micra. The tank thread is not standard...

Sportsways SPG - still usable? serviceable?

I screwed up on the pics. No markings on the 1st Stage so I can't tell. The 2nd stage is a AMF Swimaster Polaris II. Yes. Rear Port/Bottom Port SPG.

Sportsways SPG - still usable? serviceable?

Good to know. I'll clean up the oxidation with a toothbrush and change the oring. Can I use isopropyl alcohol to wipe down the spool or is there a better method?

Sportsways SPG - still usable? serviceable?

I was going through my dive locker (big 'ol Pelican case) and was looking at some of my Craigslist finds from the past. The finds included a ScubaPro capillary depth gauge, Voit SwimMaster 2nd Stage and 1st Stage (?), Dacor depth gauge, two Dacor backpacks, and a Sportsways SPG. I'm asking...

Image is really red underwater with red filter

I used these filters (Amazon) for my GoPro 4 Silver and Veho Muvi K2. For US$7, it surprisingly effective. I have the Flip for the GoPro but no one makes filters for the K2. The gel filters go inside the housing. They're a little too large for the K2 case so I carefully trimmed it. The only...

    Drysuit maneuvers n vertigo

Here's my experience with vertigo, because, apparently, we BOTH have BPV. The vertigo you experience is caused when a crystalline structure is tumbling down and hitting every sensory, hair-like follicle in your ear that messes with your equilibrium. Symptoms: vertigo, you'll feel nauseated...

    Show me your mount!!!

I use a Peak Design Pro P.O.V. shoulder mount, Kayalu GPR-5002 Articulated Extension Arm. It works pretty well. No bubble interference and the framing angle is almost perfect. This rig is forever evolving.

What do you guys think about using hands free camera/ lighting mounts?

I have my cam (Veho Muvi K2 NPNG) mounted on my shoulder with a RAM ball joint to angle it into position. I'm using a Peak Design Pro POV attachment. I use my smartphone (before diving) to adjust my POV but my cam has an LED display for me to frame my shots. No bubble interference because...

    Puerto Vallarta dive report

How is Puerto Vallarta faring after the Hurricanes? I was in St. Thomas when Hurricane Patricia was coming in. I'm going to be in PV via cruise ship during New Year's Eve. I'm looking for a refresher course for my sister. I just finished a few dives in USVI and West Indies so I'm stoked to...
