I cruise quite a bit. It's relaxing.
I dove Coz while cruising with Royal Caribbeans (2019). I used their Shore Excursions and the prices were reasonable for a two tank dive. All dives from the Shore Excursions are in the morning, no afternoon dives. Logistically, it's not possible for cruise...
Have you considered the North Jetty in Half Moon Bay? Rocks and kelp. Check on the tide and weather. Others will chime in. You might want to launch a boat to that position and drop in. If you want to experience a no-vis situation, I did a Search and Recovery attempt in Aquatic Park in SF...
I was thinking of using it as an air gauge to check the tanks in the garage. I'd never take that thing in the water! I'd be nuts.
I was wondering if I could take that thing apart just to see how it worked.
I was looking at the Highland and the one from Piranha.(minus the bolt)
I bought that Juergensen Marine PSI/BAR SPG about 5 years ago from Dive Addicts. Well, the gauge face just pop off and rotating inside under the glass. It rotated to a position where a 3000psi tank reads only 2000psi. I was in Roatan at the time but luckily, the boat at a spare reg for me to...
I just had my tanks (AL80, 2 Catalina, 1 Luxfer, 1 Catalina pony) hydro'd. Same day service, if they're not too busy. I got in at 12noon, out by 3pm.
$22/tank. Hydro only. No Visual Inspection sticker. No O-ring installation.
They used to be $20/tank, but that was years ago.
Acme Fire...
I just picked up an older AL tank (free on Craigslist - I wanted the tank harness). The numbers indicate it's a Norris aluminium. DOT-SP6688-3000. HY-8323. 10 ◊ 73. Rehydro'd 8 89 and on the opposite side BX 6 A 83 (re hydro).
If I took it in for a Hydrostatic test, I'd probably be charged for...
Contact Faber/Blue Steel and get the REE. I did that for my four 75.8/76cf that were rated for "Plus" but didn't have the REE. Response is quick.

The steel will take some lead off your belt, if that matters to you. Buoyancy will be different from your regular...
I store my gear in my house, not in my garage. Storage units are expensive, even for those tiny closets dimensions. Is it worth it to you to spend $100/month? Reach out to the local divers in Monterey (forum) if they're willing to let you store your gear at their place. Perhaps get a group...
A table vise, 2" nylon strap connected to an iron bar + brute force = movement. It was definitely off gassing from the batteries. You can smell that weird odor. The batteries were reading 1.39V so they were on the decline and needed to be changed out. Thanks, Everyone!
Thanks to everyone who contributed to this thread, especially to PacketSniffer for your contributions.
I have a 5 foot long, 3" I.D. PVC pipe from a landscaping project that I want to cut rings for the cuff. What length (roughly) was everyone using? The HomeDepot nearby that had 3" PVC...
I’ll try the heated water soak with a padded vise and strap wrench but I’ll use a non rubber strap - the rubber stretches and slips.
Yes, there are batteries still in there but it’s still lights up. I agree the gas from the batteries are most likely causing pressure build up.
I sent a message...
It won't budge. It still works, the light is strong. I haven't taken the light into the water in years, so I doubt it's salt locking up the threads. I lubed the gasket with grease before screwing down the lens but now it won't come off.
Things I've tried. Brute force using hands, feet, and...
I agree. They tend to carry non native and invasive species on their hull or in their tanks/ballast. Very dangerous for sensitive reefs and recoverying marine ecosystems.
That might be Celebrity Cruise. I took a quick weekend trip and, lo and behold, every port was one of my regular dive sites; Monterey, Catalina, Cabo San Lucas and San Diego.
Did you swim up up the ship?
When it's time for your new paint job, please post them! I picked up some Cold Galvanizing rattle can paint from Home Depot. After the Hydro stamping, I want to make sure those 76 steel tanks stays rust proof.
How are the buoyancy characteristics on those 76's in a sidemount? I thought...
