    What is this BC?

I thought it was similar to one of Cousteau's hard shell tank enclosures. Vintage Scuba Pro Hardshell BC - general for sale - by owner

    Mini pressure guages ?

I have one on my pony and I hate it. It's so damn small and my eyesight underwater (and above) isn't the greatest. I'm not looking at it for an accurate reading of 3000psi, just that it's still full. It's better to find a sale on a SPG and a short HP hose and use that instead.

How many tanks do I really need?

I try to have at least 3 of each size tanks (2 day/1 night dive). I'm currently hoarding over 24 tanks. Steel: LP72, LP76, LP85, LP95, HP100, HP130 AL: AL80, AL19/17/6/3 for use as ponies. You need to keep some pony/stage bottles in your collection.

Which Force Fin to dive dry ?

I use the Adjustable Force Fin. I've been using them for the last 15+ years using different Drysuit attached boots (Apollo), Drysuit rockboots (DUI, Pinnacles, SEAC, Chucks, Altama), or if I'm using wetsuit booties. Very easy to adjust the fit to accommodate any boot or foot size. The added...

Need advice on cheap first drysuit

eBay, Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, or Nextdoor are places to check. I would suggest you get a dry suit certification because if you want to rent and try out a dry suit, some if not most LDS require that card, for liability reasons. I own a Whites Fusion Bullet, they can be gotten for a...

Tank hydro tested in Oakland, $22/tank

I was told that Acme raised their price of the Hydrostatic Test to $30.

Just pick up another 72 but might not keep it.

He said it still had air, so I haven't emptied it to check. Air from 1966? Must be really clean! :)

Just pick up another 72 but might not keep it.

It is pretty. I like that there's no other marks on it. I might keep it because it's nice looking and use it for just testing my regs in my workshop.

Just pick up another 72 but might not keep it.

Healthways, initial hydro date 3♦66+. No other hydro stamp. Original harness and straps. No exterior rust, no corrosion, original stickers, and no rot on the straps! The o-ring is still soft and the straps are supple. Seller said he travelled with the tank; it was stored in a small wooden crate...

Hydro RIN ID marking is a "?"

Correct. The mfg's original hydro date is 4@77+ (Cochran Labs was the Inspector). I thought the "?" was a fluke and my go to list: Retester Locations is where I locate RIN ID. I like to know who did the previous hydros, especially if that shop is nearby and does a "+" certification.

Hydro RIN ID marking is a "?"

Has anyone seen a RIN hydro ID as a "?" ? I just got this PST Steel 72 and that's the first thing I noticed. DOT 3AA 2250 4@77+ 3?84 I'm not worried about it passing hydro or vis but that RIN has me wondering.

How many cylinders do you own?

Nice to see everyone's collections. It makes me feel less of a tank hoarder and more of a connoisseur of fine bottles. :) Not all are actively being used but they are all filled. steels - 11 3x PST HP100 1x Faber LP85 - searching and constantly missing out on a deal to make a pair 4x Faber...

Impossible to read tank markings - PST HP100

I just finished cleaning the old paint off the tank. The coloration is all over the place - dark spots, shiny spots, grey spots. It's not a pretty tank but who cares. After it's been re-hydro'd, I plan to respray it with cold galvanizing paint so it's more uniform and protected. I used Jasco...

Question about my new steel tank (new to me).

Most shops have a pressure gauge for them to check the filled tanks. Next time when you get a fill, have them check the pressure in front of you. If it's a little low, it doesn't take long to take to the shop to top it off. Where are you located? What's the name of your shop? Buy an airfill...

Impossible to read tank markings - PST HP100

That's the first thing I tried, paper rubbing. First with the crayon, then lead pencil. The chipped paint makes the impressions and obscures the writing. Here's the one that's Legible and the other Illegible. Do hydrostatic testing sites need to see the serial number and the working pressure?

Impossible to read tank markings - PST HP100

The neck, for sure, is the skinny 7/8". It's a true HP 3500 with the Thermo valves. Right now, I'm using Photoshop to try to make out the serial number - I don't think it's going to be legible. The FBI Forensic team would have to called out to decipher the numbers.

Impossible to read tank markings - PST HP100

I just picked up two PST HP100 3500psi. Both are painted over the galvanized surface - there's paint over the past hydro's. One still has paint and is legible, the other one ... If I take the paint off using a water based paint remover, which is supposedly safer for the finish and...

Question about my new steel tank (new to me).

I hope the Local Dive Shop (LDS) didn't charge you for the air refill. It's their fault for not checking the burst valve and allowing it leak.

    IS/WAS this a J Valve?

Is there a market for J Valves? I just pulled the other Sherwood J Valve off the PST 72 and cleaned it up with my ultrasonic cleaner - it's so shiny now! The orings on the stem, bonnet nut, and outlet are shot. I was going to rehab it and sell it or just keep it it with the tank when I...
