Tank hydro tested in Oakland, $22/tank

I knew that their hydrostatic testing equipment was out of service last year. I didn't know they never got it fixed. It must have been too expensive to repair or replace and they just stopped doing it. That's too bad. I still use Ace in East Palo Alto for hydros. I think I better find a few...

How many cylinders do you own?

Ah, but do you maintain a database of your tanks' current (expired) Hydro/VIS dates, s/n and hydro birthdate, all their specs, when you obtained your tank, and how much you paid? Unfortunately, I do. :D NOT OCD, not at all.

    NorCal Freshwater Dive Sites

My friend has a cabin up in Groveland and there's a lake there for all sorts of water activities. Do not know what to expect from that lake, it may be Pine Mountain Lake. I've joked about diving there to find our lost fishing lures! :) I think there's too much boat activity to safely go down.

    DIY Zip Seal Recycling?

I'm always interested in DIY and self repair. I've monkeyed around with a neck zipseal and was successful in separating the cemented rings. Not so fortunate on my second set. I'm always excited to learn new techniques. Bring it on.

Shark Pony Bracket - any thoughts?

The video is very informative. I'm learning to use a slung 19cf. I'm looking at a back mount using a pair of Zeagle HD Pony Bottle straps (8029HD) as an alternative.

Volunteer Opportunity - Alameda County Sheriff's Dive Team

I just attended the ACSO Dive Team open house. Great presentation and nice folks to talk to. I might not be a Diver on the team but probably as a Support member. I hope I have the time to devote to this group. Now I have to fill out the forms. By the time I was done chatting with group, it was...

    How to find an LDS?

Calling an LDS and they'll most likely tell you to come in and they'll fit you for a suit. Not all wetsuit fit the same. If we knew what area you lived in, we could recommend an LDS. You're not certified, per your status, so are you looking for a wetsuit for class? Of the shops I've visited...

    Vomiting UW question

I've done both, reg in and reg out. You have to be conscious of your actions. Inhalation, hold the air, Reg OUT, SPEW, rinse your mouth, spit, Reg IN, exhalation, inhalation. It's a conscious effort. It takes a lot of planning while you're getting nauseated and planning your next action. I'd...

    Nauseated during dive

I didn't get seasick until later on in my dive experience. I know I get seasick pretty bad but I have BPV (Vertigo) which doesn't help. The transdermal scop (patch) works great, except for the dry mouth. Bonine/Meclizine is for the strong bouts of sickness, it makes you a tad sleepy. Dramamine...

How many masks did you go through to find one that works?

Two I've own many masks from my Snorkeling days, they all fit great. Scuba, however, is a different story. Snorkeling doesn't contorts your face and you're not at depth. The mask that leaks like a sieve on me is the Sea Vision. I wanted color correction but the silicone skirt is too soft and...

Are the Malotte/Dolphin Scout Dive Kayak/Boards any good?

I saw an ad on Craigslist for this kayak for $100. Are these any good for diving? I have a 9.5 foot inflatable but this looks cooler. I heard these fiberglass kayaks are pretty tough.
