Hey Brandon, I am a commercial diver, I started off almost 14 years ago as a US Army Engineer diver and when I left the military in 2001 continued commercial diving. The job is different depending on the area your working and the type of work your doing, divers are working from the North...

    PSD Solo Diving

Just making sure Gary. Resqsqurt, I am curious about the reasoning behind having your standby diver waiting in the water? Seems like it would get cold with your water temperatures up there. Does the dressed out standby rotate into the water for the next dive? Jeff

    Scuba diving for work

For small boats around here they charge around $2.00 a foot, we do the Navy vessels in town and charge an hourly rate for the dive team but that is the only vessels we get and the only reason we get them is that the Navy base requires contractors to meet the OSHA and Coast Guard regulations for...

    Scuba diving for work

A "zinc" is a type of sacrificial anode used on a vessel. Salt water has high conductivity and as you will notice with some of our dive gear metal tends to corrode quickly. There are a few ways to slow this process: 1) is using non-ferrus metals, these are often used for the running gear...

Inner ear always seems to be blocked

If it were me I would seek a ENT specialist, perhaps it is something physiological. I have seen several divers who developed various growths that made clearing difficult.

    why people pass out underwater

CO2 toxicity was the most common cause of blackout among hard hat divers in years past, inadequate ventilation of the helmet was the cause. It still occurs sometimes, but more often than not now it is overbreathing a regulator, skip breathing, equipment that is not maintained or has been...

O2 prior to fly/alltitude for short SI?

I believe this subject is currently being studied at Duke. I know that the Navy is investigating this subject as well (NEDU) Perhaps at some point we will have a basic set of surface O2 tables for surface interval before flying

    Leaky drysuit inflator

I like to remove my valves once a year, soak them in a viniger and water solution and inspect and clean the mating surface on the suit. It is possible you have some debris in there especially if you were looking for something in the bottom at any point.

    Decompression Chamber-homemade

just some more information for those interested: Recompressions chambers are low pressure vessels, but since they are used for human occupancy they are signifigantly over engineered for safety. Chambers are built from steel, aluminium (most common), lexan, and more recently synthetic...
