Hammerhead Scuba Backplate - Less expensive, and better than Dive Rite or OMS

I own one. No complaints. Good plate at a good price. But better than anything else? Heck no - in fact, I had to spend some time with a file to get rid of the sharp edges that were eating my webbing.

So you think you are diving air...

My tanks don't have those fugly bumper stickers on. They don't, and they won't. I was thinking of making magnetic stickers so people could slap it on their tank, get a fill from the ignorant shop who refuses to fill the tank without a sticker, and then peel it off again as soon as they walk...

How many own a O2 analyzer?

Oh Geez... I will never EVER breath a tank that I haven't analyzed myself. With all due respect to the tank monkey who filled my tank, they're not the ones hanging out at 100 feet. Trust but verify. I have my own analyzer. Compared to my reg, my drysuit, my doubles set up, my BC, the...

    Uwatec Digital Gauge / BT

Push it up from the bottom... it's just held in place by tightly gripping rubber. It helps if you grab the edges of the strap to pull them down and apart while pushing up from the middle.

Power: modified flutter kick VS Frog kick

No, but I have some Volkswagen fins, and I've used Ford fins. :eyebrow: I had a buddy who swore by his Volo's... I ended up making him some spring straps for them. Then he tried a set of Turtle Fins. He hasn't worn his Volo's since.

Power: modified flutter kick VS Frog kick

I think, Lisette, if you read around, you'll discover that most people concede the frog kick in a non split fin is your best option for efficiency and minimum air consumption. Proper technique will go a long way towards both eliminating cramps and reducing your SAC rate.

    Stuff in your pockets.

Do your pockets have grommets to let the water drain out? There's your solution... thread one end of bungee through there and tie it to the other end. Voila - bungee loop. A lot simpler than pinning things or finding D-Rings, et al.

    Getting gear into Canada

That was 1976. I wouldn't sweat it today. I routinely cross the US border with a car/van full to the brim with scuba gear - whether it's July or January. Never had a problem. As for purchasing new gear over the 'net, remember the golden rule for Canadians... never EVER get anything sent UPS.

A very successful lawyer parked his brand-new Lexus...

My favourites always been: A lawyer and his wife are on a cruise, enjoying the Carribean when a rogue wave hits the vessel, knocking the lawyer over the rail and into the sea. The few people who saw what happened began to run around, desperate to get some help, but the man's wife just sat at...

    April Fools Day Pranks?

Change the Auto Correct feature in MS Word to insert "I Love Satan" everytime your coworker types "the"... they'll be convinced their computer is posessed. Take a screen shot of their screen... blow it up full size and display it full screen, and they'll wonder why their mouse doesn't work...

    P-valve installation

Aye aye sir. There are a few good links on Deco Stop about this. Some tips I've discovered, some the hard way... - break out the trimmers and "establish a fire break" from the short and curlies. On skin, it's bearable, but get a few stray hairs in there and you'll scream like a 6 year old...

Funny story but lesson learned *long*

onfloat makes a valid point - according to the laws of physics, the story isn't true... you can't have a floating cylinder when it's full and a negative one when empty. Then again, I'm sure Dakker was simply mistaken and caught up in the moment. Dakker - take a refresher. Both of you. Or...

    Were your drygloves an improvement?

Actualy, the standard isn't the 660, which is only oil resistant... it's the 490, unless you want removable liners, where you're looking at the 495.

    P-valve installation

I'm not going to speak about "what everyone else uses" but I got a bunch of the Freedom Mentor caths for cheap. I'm giving them away and getting Rochester Wide Bands. But be warned - once they're on, they're on.

    Film on Mask

Are you sure it's not the silicon yellowing with age? If you have a clear silicon skirt, it will yellow upon exposure to UV light. It's inevitable.

    Wrecks in Kingston, Ontario

Check out the folks at Northern Tech Diver (www.northerntechdiver.com) - they're the absolute leaders when it comes to diving in Kingston, and they're a great bunch of guys as well. Kingston has some of the best shipwrecks on earth. Not too many other places you can dive 150 year old wooden...

    Were your drygloves an improvement?

Doole - I would disagree, in that you're talking about a thread on drygloves. You're not getting a lot of respondees from the Mayan Riviera or Florida here. I don't think I did a single dive last year where the surface temperature cracked the 70 mark. And if you get a ring system - you can...

    Were your drygloves an improvement?

I have actually ditched a dry glove mid-dive and practiced pulling out the little string that allows the glove to equalize. If you put the glove back on after that (trapping the water thats inside your glove) your hand will be darn cold, but it's not the end of the world. If you have the...

    Were your drygloves an improvement?

If you practice and know what you're doing, having a leaky dry glove isn't a huge drama. Unless you have DUI's zip dry gloves without an inner seal - that's just asking for a world of hurt. I love my drygloves, and even e-bay'd my old wet gloves because I won't dive with them again.
