    Happy Birthday Boogie711

Yay for me! Thanks guys... I spent yesterday watching Champ Cars race through the streets of Toronto, so I celebrated yesterday. :) "...assembled out of old Tech Diver parts. " Puh-leeze... old tech divers smell funny. :)

You know you're a warm water wussie when..

The warmest water I have ever, ever dove? 73 degrees. Talk about different perspectives, huh?

Mares Hub Question. Please Help !!!!

LOL - it appears someone is getting a little sensitive about being told that their gear is downright dangerous. Dazzavv - don't shoot the messengers. And when you get ready to look at things with an open mind, feel free to respond back. You know, after you replace those things.

    HIDs AAAAARGH!!!

Which won't solve any of his problems. Not only do the UK's have the same bulb and Welch Allyn Ballast, but they're bulky, non-focusable, have limited burn time and can't be used hands-free with a Goodman handle. I don't think any 'serious' diver would consider the UK a viable option.

Oh man - did you read this thread before you posted in it?

Guess at what depth a Ping Pong Ball will crush?

I think a bigger issue than pressurization is actually physical shape. Since a ping-pong ball is perfectly round, it's one of the strongest shapes to resist external pressure known to man. Go ahead and squeeze an egg long-wise as hard as you can. Eggs aren't pressurized, but you can't...

    Pillowing in wetsuit

A few things, Jack... not having met you, take it with whatever salt you want, but it sounds like you're overweighted... and with 36 lbs, I suspect you are. I'm 6'4" and 225 lbs, and with a 7mm wetsuit, I need 24 lbs or so. The extra weight requires extra air in your BC. Extra air in your BC...

Uncle Pug dives a Zeagle Ranger BC ~ my report on the problems we had with it.

I thought once you were banned under a username, you couldn't come back and simply register under a new name? So why is the (thankfully) banned djanni, who changed his username to Road Warrior, back with us?

BP/W or Knighthawk for beginner AOW

It's OK Don - I look forward to the day several months from now when we see a post from you that says "I just tried a BP/Wing - Oh my gosh! Does anyone want a used Zeagle???" :) Until then, I will consider your arguments with the full weight with which they deserve.

    HIDs AAAAARGH!!!

Greg - read the thread you just posted in here and you'd discover that's not true.

    HIDs AAAAARGH!!!

You guys are going to love the Salvo HID bulbs. You can drive over them with a tank and they'll keep going. They're tiny - about the size of a fingernail, and a lot beefier.

This is really making me angry

And again - we have people on the verge of emotion laden attacks, rather than concise logic-laden debate. Come on, BJD - I KNOW that you know better than this. :06: I wholeheartedly concur with Sprange - "I believe 'real' scientific evidence (as opposed to the vast quantity of...

    Question about Dry Suits

Cali - don't tread into waters you're unfamiliar with. Soggy's right - it's 'A' suit, not THE suit. The Diving Concepts Ultraflex Pro is not only a great suit, it's the preferred suit of a number of GUE instructors. Dan MacKay just wrote a GUE manual on gear configuration, and the...

This is really making me angry

I think so. Bring on the whale-burgers. I'd try some if it were offered to me. I eat cows, I eat sheep. I eat trout, I wear leather, and I drive a motorized vehicle. And I STILL consider myself an environmentalist. Why? Because I use my brain, and rational thought, to determine the...

    AFI's top 100 movie quotes: What's missing?

They picked Top Gun - but they picked the wrong line. Should have been either: "Talk to me, Goose!" or "Son, your ego's writing checks your body can't cash!"

Hot Rodding my Drysuit - Pockets & Valves & Pee Valve Questions

Ditto on what's been said. The bellows pockets out there now have velcro on the sides - when or if you don't need the space, they fold down nice and compact. But zippering stuff inside a pocket, man - that's a recipe for bad news. And they're right on the cuff-dump... they're being 'phased...

    Stupid Question: What's the difference...

It's AN advantage, but not the only one. Others include ruggedness, simplicity, lack of bouyant padding, and the most important (in my mind) - a completely custom fit that fits anyone perfectly.

Dress For Success By GUE Instructor Dan MacKay - A DIR Equipment Guide

I have to echo the sentiments expressed here. At first, I was skeptical - how can you make a book out of equipment configuration? But - it's an EXCELLENT book! Really well laid out, lots of pictures, very good resource for answering questions on everything from drysuits to dive lights and...

    dry suit questions

If you chill easily, what do you think that 'nice thick warm neoprene' does at depth? Hint - it's neither thick nor warm.

    Dress for success

I got a copy of the book this weekend, everyone. I have to admit - I was really impressed. My first impression was "Why write a book about something as simple as gear configuration?" but this book does a really fantastic job at explaining things in detail, and - more importantly - with really...
